It's official, people are stupid.
My car needs to go into the shop to be painted and the last time, when I had one side done, it took 15 weeks (long story). So I have been looking for a car to buy in the meantime. I have been looking for plow trucks (i have a bunch of rental units that i'm tired of paying people to plow), an S4/S6, 200TQ, and Porsche 928 beaters (money pit). I have emailed about 20 different people from Autotrader ads, craigslist ads and ebay. I am a cash buyer, looking at $2000-4000 cars and am ready to roll. Only one--yes one-- has responded, and that was after the 3rd email I sent him. I have offered well crafted emails with pertinent questions and, always, a phone number. Most of these ads are recent and dated as such. I have forgone trying to contact any ads from a month ago that are likely already sold. Are these people actually trying to sell??
And just to compound it, I am renting one of my units. A prospective tenant asked if I would pick them up at their current residence, bring them to view my unit and then drive them home.
I believe that my title to this post is thus proven beyond reproach.

Well now... I'd have to agree.
I have the opposite problem with criagslist though, they wont leave me alone after I see the pics and say 'no thanks'.
LOL! Thats why I charge an application and credit check fee. Weeds out the losers.

What do you consider to be an acceptable timeframe for response? I have bought stuff in the past with someone checking their emails once every couple of days. Sending 2 emails and getting answered took me an entire week.
I hear you on stupid. Once made the mistake of advertising for a roomie. All the freaky weirdo people came out of the woodwork.

Within a week at the most. If you are actively trying to sell something you should make it a point to check your email with some frequency. Just to be courteous. A phone message with in a day
