HERNDON, Va., Aug 5, 2009 - Audi today affirmed an August consumer sales offer that adds a $1,000 incentive to transactions eligible for the federal government’s “Cars Allowance Rebate System” reimbursement program, more commonly known as “Cars for Clunkers.”

The $1,000 consumer incentive is valid on transactions from today to August 31 and applies to Audi models ranging from the 2009 Audi A3 to the 2009 Audi TT Roadster quattro. A table of all eligible Audi models for the CARS program and the Audi CARS Allowance incentive campaign follows. Not all 2009 Audi models are eligible for the CARS program. The federal government has not ruled on which 2010 models will be eligible under the program. As offered in July, special 60 month APR and Lease terms through Audi Financial Services are also available to complement the CARS program.

“The CARS reimbursement enacted by Congress is a tremendous opportunity for consumers interested in upgrading to vehicles that offer better fuel efficiency and reduced emissions,” said Mark Del Rosso, Chief Operating Officer, Audi of America. ” Now that some uncertainties surrounding the launch of this federal program have been cleared up the time is right to enhance the deal even further.”

My dealership told me that they were taking the $1000.00 off the price of the car as a good will gesture. But its an incentive from Audi.

And don't forget that you also get another $500 if you have been a member for six months or longer in the Audi of North America club. I have been for years and only found out about it by accident - bought my Q5, quick turn-around, maybe two weeks from submitting the paperwork to check in hand..

After reading through the full Audi press release it appears they are holding out on offering this incentive for 2010s pending the release of EPA fuel estimates to ensure the vehicles qualify for the CARS program. To my knowledge, this info is already released (can't really sell a car without the mileage estimate), so is this just Audi's way of trying to unload 2009s only?

Is your Q5 MY2009 or MY2010? Curious if they allow MY2010 Q5 to qualify for this incentive.

The 2010 Q5 qualifies for the CARS according to the gov't website so it should technically apply for the Audi incentive as well

For a new car to qualified it has to have a combined fuel economy of 18 and above. My 2010 Q5 is 20.

They took my clunker (combined fuel economy of 14) and credit me $4500.00 plus $200 for the salavage value.

Audi is extending this program to MY2010 vehicles that qualify according to Audi customer service, dealer, and regional manager.

Are they required to give you the salvage value, or was that something you negotiated for? I read in the CARS document that the dealer is allowed to keep only $50 of the salvage value to offset their cost of the rebate program, but it does not state what happens to the remainder of the salvage value.

I didn't ask for the salvage value. They gave it to me.

from cars.gov:

The program requires the scrapping of your eligible trade-in vehicle, and that the dealer disclose to you an estimate of the scrap value of your trade-in. The scrap value, however minimal, will be in addition to the rebate, and not in place of the rebate.

Where did you find this article and will all dealerships know about this or is it on a dealersip to dealership basis?

It's an official Audi press release:

Dealer I worked with was aware of it, but had to confirm that it is valid for MY2010s, which it is evidently.

Thanks for the quick reply audico. Now I can print this out and take to dealership for an additional discount.

Pardon me for a silly question. Given I have no trade in car that qualifies for the CARS program I have not followed this program very closely. Does this incentive only work for those who are trading in a eligable "Clunker" and this is more money for them? Or does this incentive apply to any purchase so long as it is the purchase of a car on that list of qualifying cars?

Officially, it only applies to the CARS program when you scrap an eligible clunker, thus providing additional money down provided by Audi. However, I would certainly ask your dealer about it when negotiating as many other car dealers are extending incentives to potential buyers who are not able to take advantage of the CARS program.

I will certainly ask. It is a real head scratcher that with the Government, via taxes that we all pay, is helping so many people buy new cars. Then for dealerships to add an incentive on top of what the Government (and again MY taxes and YOURS) is offering that only applies to those who are already getting free money. That is a hard pill to swallow.

Chrysler is doing that double incentive bonus but they make it very clear that if you don't have a clunker you will still get their portion of the double incentive. No need to tell me that Chrysler is not Audi but still I hope Audi is similar in this one aspect.

May I ask how much did you get off MSRP? I got of $1500 and I was just wondering if they included that rebate

That's in the ballpark of what I got off, not including the $1000 incentive.
