Default Replacement Tranny Options?

So, for a while now I have had the dreaded 1st gear noise, but it really isn't funny anymore and something needs to be done.

What are the options and approximate costs with repairing/upgrading (6-spd) or replacing the transmission?
I rememeber seeing something about the urS6's getting longer 1st gears that are apparantly resistant to this problem... true?

Does anyone have a known good tranny for sale?

Do the B5's simply bolt-in ... or is it a lot of work to convert the car?

One dowel pin has to be removed. You will lose the ProConTen system unless you can get a bracket fabbed. (Not a big loss if you have a working airbag, ProConTen preceded airbags).

Talk to Gabriel (Skollie) on the Vancouver S-car email list.

i just replaced my 94 urs4 with a 95.5 for that reason, in hide sight, the noise had been exactly the same for two years, shifted and drove perfect, just sounded like crap in first gear,

my understanding is that is cause by the first gear being weaker due to smaller shaft size on the earlier o1e's, the best bet is to replace the tranny as rebuilding it, does not make sense economically,

if i could do it again, i would have just saved the money to buy a good rebuilt six speed, worth the money in the long run, advancedautomotion has good rebuilds,
