View Full Version : Some questions for Q5 owners

There are some details I will like to know.

Does the display show the current gear when in D or S?

Do the front seat recline all the way back to the back seats? While traveling I have been caught a couple of times in a place without hotel vacancies and sleeping in a car, even bad, is better than nothing.

Are the front head rests uncomfortable? I have read a report complaining that they adjust up and down but not at angle or back and forth.

Can the electric rear hatch be closed from the remote for the 2010 or still only by the hatch button?

Thanks!

IMHO, the headrest is generally comfortable but a little too forward for me. only adjustable up/down. YMMV.

Thanks for the info. Any other opinions about the long term use of the head rests? Anyone knows about the electric hatch?

I'm 5'9" and the head rests don't bother me at all.

The electric hatch can not be closed by the remote, unless aftermarket work is done. There is info in another thread here about how to make it do it.

Thanks guys. One more question. Do you know how many turns lock-to-lock the steering wheel has? (WITHOUT audi drive select).

I wasn't able to find that info anywhere.

and one more question... do you still get an AUX connection when you get the premium plus with the ipod connection?

Thanks!

In the 2009 Q5 I tested the current gear is displayed, such as D1, D2, D3, S1, S2, S3, etc. However, in the 2010 Q5 this is not the case, unfortunately. The current gear is displayed only when in Manual mode.

That's a pity, that info has been useful to me in the past. It is weird that they REMOVED the gear number information for 2010. Could it be just that it is in some configurations but not in others? (like color vs monochrome display)

The 2009 I test drove was a Prestige, thus it had Nav and the color instrument display. The 2010 I picked up is a Premium+ with Nav, and it also has the color display but no gear indicator when in D or S. I agree it is weird to remove the feature, I found it to be useful information as well.

I bet it can be restored with VAG-COM when someone figures out the code

Sorry if this has been asked in other forum before, but wouldn't the use of VAGCOM void the warranty?

Hi, anyone know about if there is audio AUX connection in the premium plus and how many lock-to-lock wheel turns are in a non audi drive select?

Hi, anyone know about if there is audio AUX connection in the premium plus and how many lock-to-lock wheel turns are in a non audi drive select?

My Premium+ w/ Nav came with the Ipod connector that plugs into the Audi Music Interface (AMI) port in the glove compartment. In the manual, it shows several other types of connectors that can be obtained through your dealer to accommodate devices other than Ipods, such as USB, mini USB, and 3.5mm stereo jack.

seems like 1 and 1/3 turns L and R, though the actual effects depend on the speed the car is traveling.

Thanks, so I assume the P+ doesn't have an stereo Aux connector in the center console as the premium then?

Thanks for the info. It looks like it is about 2.7 turn to turn then, not as good as 2.3 with ADS but still quite decent.

I would highly doubt that the steering locks are different with or without drive select.

Thats what Audi drive select do, it varies the suspension's stiffness, transmission shift points, throttle response, steering stiffness and steering turn to turn ratio.

Yes, but the physical number of rotations of the steering wheel (lock to lock) would be the same.

No, it varies the lock to lock ratio as well to give you a faster steering response in the sports mode. It is quite a system, I wish I can afford it. Below is a quote from the Audi website about the A5's drive select, which is the same as the one in the Q5:

The dynamic steering of the A5 with Audi drive select varies both the level of steering assist as well as steering ratio.

As I said, the number of revolutions lock to lock is the same whether you have or don't have DS. Certainly, the steering ratio/assist must change with DS.

I'm also trying confirm what someone at Audi driving experience said - that all Q5's with and without DS change the steering assist depending on speed.

If the steering ratio changes then the number of lock to lock rotations must also change because the maximum turning angle of the wheels is constant.

All 2010 Q5s have the servotronic steering (in the US), which means they all have speed variable steering. You must have ADS to change the steering characteristic, however. Only 2009 Q5s with ADS have the variable and adjustable steering.

Exactly, Audi had this system in the A4 and the A5 for a few years already, BMW and Lexus also have their own version of it.

I thought that all Q5's sold in the US have servotronic. Are you sure the 2009 ones don't have it?

Hi, can Q5 Premium Plus/Prestige owners confirm that there is no stereo jack connexion (AUX) on the center console? Does anyone has bought a stereo jack cable for the audi music adapter then and can tell me how much it cost?

Also, can you confirm that there is not gear number indicator on the screen while in D or S on none of 2010 Q5?

My 2009 Prem Plus does NOT have a stereo jack in the center console. Just the iPod connection in the glovebox.

Sorry, I still have 3 more question wish owners can answer:

- Does the parking system include front sensors? If yes, how many?

- Is there an option in car setup for 2010 Q5 to display current gear where in D or S?

- Do the Navegation include/display forest roads? I use those quite frecuently and it will be a no go for me if those are not included (what I am worried about after hearing so much about Navigation database deficiencies). BTW anyone have got a nav database update?

Thanks!

Hi, any can answer about this? (I didn't find info about the parking system sensors on the Audi USA website).

Thanks.

4 sensors in front.

Yes, the display between the gauges will display D or S or gears if in manual.

Not sure about forest road since our Q5 never leave the pavement :)

1. Well, I can tell you that my 2009 Prem Plus w/Nav has a total of 8 parking sensors, 4 in the front and 4 in the rear.

2. Don't know, I have a 2009 and mine always shows the gear selection.

3. Don't know about forest roads, haven't been to the mountains yet. You are correct about the deficient database, it's horrible. Haven't gotten any updates yet but I'm due for my first service in about a month or so, hopefully they'll have something out by then.

Let me know if there is anything else I can answer.
