The Q5 is great so far but I noticed something each time on startup. Once I get into gear and start moving above 5mph, I feel a slight click on the accelerator pedal and then the doors lock. Is this normal?

I think the "auto door locking" is a pretty common safety feature on new vehicles. My '07 A4 does the same thing.

I don't think his question was about auto lock

I think he was worry about click on accelerator pedal.

Correct.

If I feather the accelerator slowly passed 5mph, I can feel a click at the pedal right before the auto door lock is heard. But if I gas it quickly, I don't feel the click. Go figure.

It may be an ABS check- used to nitice it in my old Jeep. I've heard the clicking with the Q5 at over 5mph but hadn't noticed the feel in the pedal. Just assumed it was some kind of automated check...

prolly something like that. just surprised no one else noticed it or mentioned it.

other than that, so far so good (knock on wood).

I have not noticed it, yet . . .

There are so many speed-dependent functions that what you feeling is probably some sort of relay or interlock actuating at speed. I'll watch for this next time I drive.

I feel a slight vibration in the pedal before the doors lock. I think it's the same thing that you are experiencing.

Yes, that is exactly what I'm experiencing. Nice to know I'm not the only one.

I have a 2010 Q5 Prestige fresh off the boat as of September 4, 2009 and am experiencing something similar. There is also a bit of a metallic grinding noise that I can feel through the gas pedal before the doors automatically lock.

Do you just feel/hear a click or is there some metallic grinding?

I've noticed it on some occasions on mine. It feels like the gas pedal is engaging/disengaging. Doesn't really bother me and happens rarely.

Tarepanda:

I feel a bit of metal grinding at the footpedal as well as hear a click or two at the same time.

Does this happen when you start and turn off the car?

Do you also put on your parking brake (hand brake)?

For me, it happens only during startup and during low speed (~5mph) moving from a stop. It doesn't happen when I stop the car.

It happens irrespective of whether I had the parking brake on or off before startup.

I think I might have the same noises as you but only with the parking brake on. I also get a little bit of vibration in the brake pedal but always thought it was due to the engine starting up.

Sorry to open an old post, but did anyone ever find a 'fix' for this issue, or have we just accepted that it's 'normal'? I'm going to mention it at my 5k service next week, but wanted to see if anyone had managed to get rid of the clicking.

I hear & feel it everytime that I startup the car and star driving, whether or not the parking break was on.

Thanks!

Mine is new (received Monday) and it definitely does this right before the auto door locks engaged. I'm VERY glad that I had already read this thread because otherwise it would have definitely worried me. As it is, I'm happy to accept it as "normal".

Did anyone figure out what it was? It happens to me everytime I turn the ignition on and move at 5 to 7 mph. It happens once and that's it. Just curious to know what it is.

I believe it is the clutches engaging. When your foot is on the brake the clutches are disengaged. Try it and see. Put the car in neutral and keep your hand on the gearshift. Press & de-press the brake. I'm sure you'll feel the click through the gearshift.

It happens ONLY when the auto door lock engages. If you drive for a long time (in a parking lot, for example) at a speed low enough for the auto door lock not to turn on, you don't feel the vibration in the pedal until such time as the Auto Lock engages. I now notice this on mine every single time I drive it.

I turned off the auto lock from the MMI to see if it was the auto lock. The click/quick grinding on the gas pedal still occurs.

I stand corrected. Still probably nothing to worry about though since we all seem to be getting it :)

I finally had a technician at a dealer hear/feel the click while driving my Q5. He agreed that it's an ABS check and said it was normal.

Personally I think it's way too loud and grinding to be normal. Plus, I've driven plenty of cars with ABS and never heard/felt this on any of them (including the multiple other Q5s I've driven recently).

Please understand that if you haven't experienced this, it really is a bad feeling and even though I now know what it is, it still makes me cringe every time it happens b/c it feels like something is so very wrong.

Has anyone had this 'problem' and had it disappear (either on it's own or via a dealer fix)?

Thanks.

my G35's ABS check is even louder. its a 2003. I've noticed that the ABS systems in cars have evolved a lot over the years. they used to feel weird but they no longer make the pedal feel mushy and grindy noises. i like it and i think the check lets you know its ok!
