93 Urs4 transmission issues.Lost 1st and 2nd gear
I have owned my 93 Urs4 for about 3 months.Last night while at a stop sign I went to shift into first and I could not get it into gear.I hadn't noticed any shifting issues prior to this.3rd 4th 5th and reverse gears seem fine.
I'm hoping it's just a linkage problem but have no expeirence with these cars.Does anyone have any tips on how I should proceed from here? Maybe a pic of the linkage so I have an idea of how it works.
I'm not sure where to start, any help or advice would be greatly appreiciated

It's probably just a shift linkage problem (see diagram)
I would suspect that the no. 38 nut has come loose or the no. 28 clip has taken earlier retirement and has gone on holidays.

Thanks so much for the relay and the schematic - it gives me a good idea of how it goes together but how do I get at it? Does the console needs to be removed or do I just start taking the shifter apart and fix it from the top?
Thanks again
Thanks again

If he can get in reverse, why would it be the shift linkages? There is a possibility of "self machined" 1st/2nd collar/hub in the transmission. I have this exact problem with my car, usually forcing the lever will get in gear and doing 1-2-1-2-1-2 a lot of time will use the parts back to a more "normal" (and usable) state.

There are 2 rods - the one that moves 3,4,5th and reverse gears moves ok.The other rod does not move at all.I have tried to get it into first or second, it will not go and I'm not gonna force things. What about first and second gear is separate from the rest?I get the impression from Macworld that reverse works on the same rod as 1st and 2nd? If that is the case it would seem the issue is in the tranny and not with the linkages.Maybe a shifting fork?

I am not sure on the UrS cars but on most cars the rods are used as following (when there is 2 rods): first rod is to select the internal fork of the transmission. On cars with R-1-2-3-4-5-6 pattern (with reverse left of the 1st gear) there is 4 forks, one for R, one for 1-2, one for 3-4 and the last for 5-6. The other rod is to select which gear of the two the fork will select.
That is why I say that if Reverse is working the 1-2 should be working. Shift linkage problems usually result in Reverse not working first and then the 1st gear sometimes gets at the location of the Reverse since there is too much free play in the linkages and you are not able to properly select the proper fork.
Again, I didn't disassembled those parts on my UrS so far so the information I give are simply logical and based on experiments with many other cars.
I know the 01E transmissions have a common problem with the 1-2 hub/collar. That is why there is kits to solve this problem available like this one: http://www.jhmotorsports.com/shop/ca...858d0ed84333a9

Looks like the linkage is fine.Even tho the vid above is for the 01e 6spd if the 5sp has the same 1-2 gear setup that looks to be my problem...damn! I guess the tranny will have to come out. The question is replace or repair? Car has 140,000 on it. Is there a ballpark figure for this repair? I would love to put a 6 spd in it but as always funds are tight.
