The primary problem is a lack of uniformity in the individual states requirements for CCW permits. There are states where you need only apply and not have a felony on your record to qualify. Until we can reach some sort of standard qualification process involving some class teaching (3-4hrs) and some sort of demonstration of required skills this will be an uphill battle. These are similar to what is required to obtain a dirver's license so it's not too much to ask of states that have no requirements to obtain a permit. If you live in a state w/o these education/testing requirements try to do your part to get more support of a more universal permit process. It's best that states individually agree to this as the last thing we want is the federal government imposing a law to unify the process which would allow a nationwide reciprocity.
Just my $0.02 a few months after the fact. I did my part when this bill was introduced but it was pretty obvious it wasn't going to pass until this was addressed. The fallout after the fact shows that we really weren't even that close but once representatives saw the vote was going to fail they submitted their vote as yea. Pretty crooked tactics but what do you expect from politics?
