Well, my wife is pregnant with our 2nd child and I'm worried that a second child seat in the back of our A4Q won't fit; and if it does, space will be very tight in the back seat for legroom.
Does anyone have 2 car seats in the back of their A4? And if so, how do they fit?
I have seriously considered selling my A4Q and buying a atoyoT danL resiurC in lue of a Mini-Van (I’ll never own a Mini-Van. They do have their purpose, but I can’t stand the thoughts of picking my son at school (he’s only 1.5 years old now) with the 100 other Mini-Vans there). But I really love our A4, and still get complements on it to this day.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all,
Greg Heidt
'97 2.8L A4QM in Pearl.
PS: Steve S. Sorry I haven't been around lately. Just wanted to say Hi to ya. Hope all is well.

I think you could get two car seats in there...I only had one at a time. Remember, for
the first couple months the newborn needs to be in the front facing backwards...the wife
goes to the back. I think it would work...but you would have to try different sized seats...the
older child might need to get one of those more expensive racing car kiddie seats...the allow
for more room.
Glad to see you are still on the planet.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

I have been putting 2 seats in the back of mine for the past two years, though now I just have one
booster seat and one smaller baby seat.
And have even had the two seats plus an adult in the back too.
You really get to appreciate just how wide the rear doors open when kiddies seats are in the back.
Don't, just dont, think you need a Landcruiser.
Graham, now with 2.5 and 6 year old back seat drivers!!

At least down under the opinion is that a rear facing baby seat cannot be used in a front passenger seat in a car with dual airbags.
In fact come to think of it no rear facing baby seats are allowed in the front of any cars down here, they all have to be placed in the back of the car. All new cars have to have at least 2 baby seat anchor points down here.
FWIW
Graham

Well, I'm a 2 month owner of a 98.5 2.8QMS. I got rid of a '92 Honda Accord and space WAS a consideration. My kids are 4 and 6 and are small for their ages. The 4 yo is 34 lbs and still sits in a child seat. The 6yo sits in a full size booster seat (L shaped with both a bottom and back). Both of these seats are in the outboard rear positions in my A4. I wouldn't call it roomy, but it works fine. You could not put anybody in the middle, however. I actually think it will be even better when we finally are not using the seats, as then the kids' legs will be resting on the floor instead of hanging at mid seat level, where they can kick the netting.
As far as the other car, we have a Mercury Villager minivan, which is mom's and the kids primary vehicle. But I do take the kids to school almost daily in the A4. I would rather have the mini van than one of those SUVs which clog up the school parking lot. They don't seat as many people, ride like trucks, and get even lower mileage than our minivan!

I'm no mini-van fan myself. However, I only have 1 child at the time so unless twins suddenly arrive, I don't have to consider them.
IMHO, a Passat, A6, or even a Volvo wagon would be a better choice than a SUV. All of these have plenty of room and still offer a good driving experience (although the A6 should have a stick!). Based on the reasons I bought the A4, a wagon would be a better replacement than an SUV.
Unless of course you have reasons other than a growing family to consider one (towing etc.), stay with a car that's fun to drive!
Same story here. That's one reason I sold my last car (coupe) it got too hard putting my boys in the back. My 4 yr. old is in a booster, while his little brother 1.5 yr is outboard.
Works great, but I did buy a LARGE black towel to put over the onyx leatherette <spl> to keep sipper cup spills at bay.
Mark
98.5 1.8
