I have an awful clanking noise on my front right. Mechanic thought is was the new brake pads.....not. Another mehanic thinks it's the caliper bushings. Dealer wants $90 one set of pins and 4 bushings....I found set locally for less, but they appear to be wrong size. So, this is my first time working on brakes, but.....I didn't see any bushings around the 4 caliper pins...they should be around the unthreaded side of the pins, near the head, correct?
Does anyone by chance have the correct part # for the caliper hardware and/or a place to order? I'm really not trying to pay $90 X 2 for this at the dealer and my Google searches haven't been very successful. Thanks!

Nevermind.......looks like it may be a control arm issue.

i might have the same issue. clanking noise underneath the car. can't pin point where exactly. you say it might be a control arm issue? also a real fast clanking noise when i first start the car. last for about 1-2 seconds. sounds like loose light metal hitting each other

I've been back and forth between my mechanic and the place where I got the brakes done. Mechanic thought it was the clips that hold the brake pads in place....not. Then he and the brake place thought it was the caliper bushings.....not. I'm not liking mechanics right now....need a new one and to start the DIY. Anyway, I looked through numerous AW threads and I'm starting to believe it's a suspension issue. I've been told that the arms/bushings/tie rods are a fairly regular Audi issue. I might have to break down and have the dealer diagnose it, which I hate.
BUT.....one thing. I hear the clanking when I hit bumps, but when I hit the brakes, it stops. So would that still be a suspension issue? I'm thinking it wouldn't be, but I'm not sure. Does yours act the same?

I just came from another mechanic this morning. They showed me where the bushings were ripped on the right side and the arms were hitting each other on the left. Recommended having all 4 front arms replaced because @ 64K miles if they just did the bushings, it's very possible the arms could go bad soon as well.
The wear on the bushings and arms I could see when the car was lifted...I should have taken pics. You might want to peek under the car and see what come across. I can try and take pics when I get back from the weekend if you want. Good luck.
Anyone.......does $1300 sound about right for control arms + alignment for the front end?

Yes, that price is reasonable for new arms.

I have the same problem and i changed all arms, but the noise still there. Noise like it something loose, its drives me crazy! Maybe it is wheel bearing or axle?
