Just heard a first hand account, PCA member, brand new red 911 Cab getting cited by Newton PD just off rt9 near 128. So how long til MA turns these into moving violation with points ? :(

Just a heads up, it looks like a pathetic attempt to make $35 for the state. How can $35 be worth the risk of pulling over anyone, let alone a high dollar car that is clearly not an illegal or common criminal..

IIRC, a no front plate citation is a moving violation.

I'll have to verify that one. I was pulled over in April for having no front plate on the Pike, after having it off for about 8 months. Trooper was a nice guy, gave me a warning. Said it would be a $35 ticket if I was pulled over again. I threw it on after that.

It sux, but just run the front plate...they will use it as an excuse to pull you over, then give you **** about your exhaust, dead hookers, road soda, or what ever else they can cop you on. I try not to give them any reason...my 2 cents...

yup, especially on a daily driver. On a fun weekend car, it might be worth the risk, if your only other choice is to drill into the bumper FTMFL

Wait a minute. I thought dead hookers were okay if they were in the back seat.

Try counting the number of Corvettes with front plates. Number zero.

Why do they get a pass? Cops are jealous of those.

But A 911? An M3? Sure you're Public Enemy Number One without a front plate.

How about in the winter when some POS Pickup has a plow on the front and the plate is covered if it was there in the first place. No Problem...

But an S4 Cab, PENO.

God forbid you're driving a Ferrari...no plate..PENO.

LOL

Mike

(PS I was pulled over on the way back from Nashua to Manchester back a few years with sleeping baby in the back, and front plate and front plate mounting hardware with sales receipt beside me on the front seat, Yes I was PENO that day, but was lucky no ticket, when I ordered my RS6 I told them to put the front plate mount on it and I had to fax back a signed form before they would actually drill the holes, otherwise PENO)

PENO??? It makes sense that dealers with brains are smart enough to not break out the drill without consent lol

Seriously, if an officer in MA pulls me over for no front plate, to hand out a no surcharge $35 ticket- It would be hard to resist laughing in the cops face for the pathetic nature of being pulled over in dangerous traffic :D God knows he could hand you the ticket and get run over by a 90 year old blind man, given that MA enforces front plates more than senile drivers..

I would laugh at the cop as long as there were no other ticketable offenses present at the time of course hehe

How about if MA stopped printing front plates and actually tried to SAVE money instead of trying to make more money to fill the spending holes they are so frikin blind to. They could actually spin it from an environmental aspect and get some good press for once.
It would consume 50% less raw materials, ship 50% less weight, and the space to store the plates would be 50% less. Maybe this is waaaaaay to obvious to state gov't. I don't believe the words "saving money" is in their vocab.

It always cracks me up when people think cops give out money tickets to raise money for the state, in the worst state to be a cop in the country.

lol.. it has already been clearly shown that tickets on the Turnpike have gone way up to help pay for the big dig scam. The laser traps in the tunnels and the toll booths are pathetic

I bought a car this week in Stoughton and drove it back to VT without either plate. Car came with a radar detector, got zapped 6 times on the way back and never got a second look.

I have been seeing many more people pulled over the past several months.
I think the state's revenue is down too much from TAXATION, not they go for the next best thing, FINES.

A police officer does not give a rats ass if hes making money for the state.

but officers are more vigilant now, and they wont bother with a warning and just instead always issue tickets. Their superiors will be proud, and the state gets more money.

If cops are writing more money tickets the reason is most likley because since the taking away of details and the quinn bill they need to generate court time to make up for the income lost . . . I have never heard of a supervisor giving an at'a'boy to a cop becuase hes writing a lot of money tickets.

State Troopers write prob 98% money tickets anyways because their main job is traffic enforcement. Most local guys could care less if you have a front plate or not, unless they are really bored in a small town.

The key item here is that you have your other plate with you. The cops are very careful about people having two cars sharing one plate. That was the story that happened a few years back - people bought two cars (say Honda Accord) of teh same color and shared one set of plates, and one insurance bill. Pretty slick trick.
I have been pulled over once without plate and showed the other one, stating it just was about to fall off and I was going to put it back on when I got home. Got a warning.

hehe scam works until you wreck the Accord and the VIN doesn't match the policy lol
