I've been looking at prices for rs4s recently and they are down in the 40k-50k range. This is my dream car. My absolute dream car. Pretty soon I may be able to afford one! I was just wondering who here has gotten a used rs4 for the lowest price? It blows my mind that someday sooner than later I may be driving one of these beautiful monsters!

I think depending on the mileage an 07 can be had for around 45k or less from a Audi dealership. Private sale should be even better. CPO about $1k-$2k more.
I think a used 08 can be had for low $50's. Keep looking around and be prepared to fly and pick it up. This is what I did and it was fun.
These prices are not estimates but reality when I bought mine in March.

I purchased a used 2007 w/ 11k miles for $43k. It also had HRE wheels, Stasis Ohlin suspension, Hotchkis sways, GMG exhaust, and according to the dealer and aftermarket clutch. I was lucky and purchased it from a BMW dealership who obviously didn't know much about the car and they simply wanted to get rid of it. Clean car-fax, clean dealer check so I couldn't pass it up. I got mine back in late January and its been absolutely amazing. I came from a 2006 Volvo S60R, which in its own right was an amazing car. I ended up selling it to a relative which worked out nicely so I still get to see the old Swedish brick from time to time ;) I must say the S60R seats are the most comfortable I've ever sat it.
The RS4 though is really an amazing car and I've received nothing but compliments from other folks on the road (especially about the exhaust). Power, beauty, handling, luxury.....it fit my requirements perfectly and again with all those upgrades it was a **** steal!

Did you have anything done to your R? I currently have a 2004 S60R and have almost everything short of a turbo upgrade. The RS4 felt like everything I wanted the R to be, but I'm still debating if the price difference is worth it...

I had a bone stock R.
Brand new is the price difference worth it??? Absolutely not IMO. Yes the RS4 will easily outperform an S60R in almost every way but I remember you could get an R for low $40k's brand new even during the good economic times. The sticker price on my RS4 which apparently was purchased in mid 2007....$73k. Yikes!
The other problem with the R is you couldn't really upgrade the turbo without severly compromising the integrity of the overall engine. The internal components were just not meant to handle a ton more than the stock power output (at least from what I read on the forums for people who DID upgrade the turbo...they eventually had to replace the internal components). The RS4 is balls-out from the beginning.
So overall Im incredibly happy with the move and completely can justify the USED price I paid for the RS4. Again if it was new...hell no :D

Are you talking brand new? I hope so cause that price for a used one is waaaaay to high IMO. I shopped on ebay as well and about 95% or more of the RS4's for sale never went above $45k (used RS4's)

What car did you come from? And how are you liking your rs4?
I guess this was towards me. :)
I came from 2 different Subarus. WRX and STi and a 335xi.
I was really trying to get out of the modifying more (well a never ending cycle in the Subis). I drove a RS4 then an S4 and 335xi. I liked the RS4 then the S4 and last the 335xi. I ended up getting a 335xi 6sp man and believe it or not although it was a wonderful car it never quite felt right. So I decided to take the hit and move to the RS4. Looking around I noticed the pricing for the RS4's and I was like I must be nuts not to get one and be done with it. So I did. At about $14k less than the 07 I test drove last January (0f 2008)
I even looked at a S60R before I got the STi and the dealership folks were tools. They never took me seriously so I was well I will give me 40 something grand to someone else.
With only 15,000 miles and Suzuka Gray, rare color;)

to be honest this is greatly overpriced. Color does not warrant such a premium.

The Suzuka Grey is way too expensive as listed. Sure it is a rare color, but so are RS4s in general. These days dealers are selling brand new 08 holdbacks with Ti and many times exclusive interior (Crimson Red) for mid 50s. You're buying brand new, with 4 yrs warranty and no history to fret over. And you might get cheap financing while at it. Don't go for this one unless it is discounted my another 8-10K

Yikes! And I wonder if the paint match is decent enough, this is one tough color to match! There are examples of Ibis White cars that have gotten a respray and the bumper color looks way off!
Things often don't show up on carfax especially when handled outside of an insurance claim. If the repair was paid out of pocket and at a small shop without any insurance adjuster filing a report, it won't show up on any carfax. In fact, the selling dealer may not know.
Call me anal, but anytime I inspect a used car (whether for myself or friend) I bring a paint thickness measurement device (called a micronometer IIRC) which measures the thickness of the paint at all body panels... You can gauge that way if there was some aftermarket respraying...

Purchased my 2007 RS4 a few weeks ago for $48,000. It had 3,900 miles and the owner said he only drove it on sundays around town. He said he never even took it on the highway (which i found a little strange). Carfax was perfect, previous owner was fantastically nice. There isn't one scratch on the car. I consider the car basically brand new and I'm suprised he lost about 25-30k on the car. It is fully loaded with the titanium package, nav, premium package etc. I'm absolutely astonished at how little he sold that car for.
It certainly is a buyers market nowadays. This is the perfect time to look into a used rs. Price is going way down and quality is going up.
(P.S. Be careful, I saw an RS4 in phantom black listed on autotrader that was missing his two front doors for 56k.)

Auto trader served me well also, I live in SoCal and found a phantom black w/ aluminum trim with what I think is a pretty rare interior (primarily black with cf trim and dove grey leather door inserts and seats), the seats have black piping. I found mine in Santa Monica and paid $44,500, 10K miles. It was a lease return and came with the warranty and Audi care. I previously owned an e46 M3 which I loved, but it hit 90K miles and like many of you I had loooong lusted after an RS4 ever first my first sighting in late '06.
The RS4 does have it's quirks, leaky suspension and oil build up issues. Suspension is not so much an issue if you plan to upgrade to coilovers (like I do).

Since Audi stepped up and replaced everyone's leaking DRC, I haven't heard of a single one leaking again. *knock on wood* So that's likely one major annoyance down, leaving the carbon/DI-related issues still developing. But this isn't limited to just the RS4 motor - it's everywhere from Audi to Chevy.

Go with the CPO'ed RS4. You can find them with very little miles and very well taken care of..
<O:p</O:pMaintenance is no much more them any other Audi. Oil changes are a bit more since it requires more oil; tune ups are a bit more since it has 8 spark plugs. Brake pads and rotors are a bit more because their unique compared to the regular A4. No timing or ribbed accessory belt to break or change which is a big plus. (there is one little belt for the alternator that gets checked from time to time.)

I was asked to pay $2k extra to CPO my car which I decided against. 2 year and 100k miles after the factory 4/50k did not add up. I guess I have the option to get the extended warranty before the end of the factory warranty.
Or I can go for an aftermarket warranty. I did some research and I am persuaded that CPO is not the greatest and I know I will not be doing 50k miles between year 5 and 6. My car is a weekend car and it will probably get maybe 5-6k a year.

I looked at a bunch used RS4's and had 2 in the high $40's sold out from under me. After getting a little frustrated and seeing a lot of 2007's that did not look well taken care of, I took the plunge and bought a leftover 08 that has been sitting at the dealer since Oct. $59K. Yes, the only reason for the 10mm spacers is for appearance. No different wheels for this girl as I think the stock shoes are very nice. Not sure how your neon lights comment really makes sense in this case. Nothing is "ricey" with the 10mm spacers, the spacers just make the wheels line up nice along the fender. When you purchase custom aftermarket wheels, the offsets are definitely more aggressive, which to me looks better, and is all that the spacers do.

CPO is not transferable from one owner to the other. And after the factory warranty expires you are pretty much on your own unless you get an extended warranty from a third party.

I've heard that some dealerships will CPO the car for you for a couple thousand bucks, but that doesn't appear to be the norm, and you have to factor the price of doing that (if you can really do it) when deciding what to pay a private seller. But when you consider the valve sludge issues, DRC repairs, and just the normal crap that can go south on Audis (since January I've dropped about $4k replacing upper control arms, windshield wiper linkage, and next week the AC compressor on my B6 S4), anything other than CPO is taking a major risk backed up with your bank account.
Can't you always buy the CPO warranty before the car expires from it's factory warranty?

Buy the Exclusionary warranty through an Audi dealership with Fidelity. $3500 or so will get your 4 years/60000 miles with $0 deductible. Factory Audi's extended warranties go through Fidelity. They have a partnership.
Cheap and easy.

I bet it was punched already at whatever dealership it was sitting at before delivery at the dealership you bought it at? Warranty probably started rolling a year or so ago.
The Warranty started in October 2008 but that is not an issue for me. This is my daily driver and I will hit 50,000 way before the time runs out on the warranty. The 2006 S4 I sold had 70K on it.

When I was looking for used RS4's my local Audi service guy told me that it is not all that it is cracked up to be. Besides the deductable each time you bring it in, it does not cover wear and tear items. The DRC is considered a wear and tear item and is not covered. Since it seems to be one of the two big problems discussed on this forum along with clogged injectors, I went with the leftover '08 and the full factory warranty.

Almost got an RS4 but the price just didnt warrant me getting one compared to lets say a.. Brand new 2011 B8 S4 which is what I picked up. I still love the RS4 and may pick one up for fun one day later in life but I paid less for my brand new S4 than I wouldve paid for the 08 RS4

You must have gotten a sweet deal…what did you pay for the S4 and how is it equipped.

I bought my 08 DG ti for 51K in March 09' with 8K on the clock. Flawless except for a scratch in the back seat that was fixed to my liking (perfect). It is CPO'd and warrantied till 118K or March 2014 with a service agreement every 10K...... (which is BS, should be every 4-5 but owell)

Your service guy is a liar or very misinformed... I have had 2 DRC replacements (finally got the rev C in), a carbon clean, and a few other $1,000+ part jobs all covered under the CPO warranty. Lets also not forget anything to do with the vaccuum system, engine, or whatever, and you'd be paying ALOT more than 1,500-2K in work that your CPO would have covered.... BTW, I have no deductable, are you sure you are talking about CPO and not an aftermarket warranty option?

It's CPO'd.... I have the standard CPO + the duration of the regular warranty. I did not buy my car new....
