Had a great road trip yesterday in NorCal. Spent most of the trip home driving safely in a veritable tempest, but had a lot of fun when the rains let up and the standing water ran off the roads. As I was approaching 101 South from hwy 37, when an Explorer decided he *had* to cut me off well before the overpass. He was doing about 40, and I was doing about 65. Knowing that a hard brake would not slow me in time (the roads were still wet but there was no standing water), I executed an emergency lane change and zipped by the Ford, all four wheels hugging, nay, Loving the road and executing the turn with relish, safely propelling me past the offensive and unsafe driver. I didn't even slow down and took the sweeping approach onto 101S at 65 still firmly pressed to the road.
note: I am not generally knocking SUVs here (though the Sea of Jeeps does sometimes resemble a pack of lemmings), some of my best friends and good drivers use these vehicles and that's just fine. ok, that said...
Going down 101, I was ecstatic to find that a pair of Acura Integras thought they owned the fast lane doing 60. I followed fairly closely, but at a politely safe distance until I coulds stands no more..... *snick* *snick*, this time I downshifted to fourth and the TAPped 1.8T taunted the Hondas with the baritone growl of the sport air filter and exhaust as it swept past them on the inside, the 205 SP Sport 8000's still amorously clinging to the damp roads at a potentially dangerous 75mph (kids, don't try this at home). Once burned, and knowing they were out of their element, the Hondas sheepishly moved over two lanes in my rear view mirror.
The moral of the story - I love my new car!
Robbie
(99 1.8Tqms)
