Hi All, I'm looking for some opinions. I test drove several used A6's today and I'm torn between two cars. I'm curious to see other's opinions. Choose A or B.
A) 2006 Audi A6 3.2 Q in Silver, perfect body, some minor curb rash on wheels, interior is excellent shape (Platinum Gray). Car has only 19K Miles, Nav, Premium Pkg and 17" wheels and is selling for $29995. Car has all service records.
B) 2006 Audi 3.2 Q in Navy Blue, perfect body, no curb rash on wheels, Interior is excellent shape (Premium Leather in Amaretto). Car has 36K miles, Premium, Tech, Weather Pkgs with 18" wheels and is selling for $28990. This car also has all service records.
Both have clean CarFax and both were leases and both are now being sold as CPO.

i'd take the one with lesser miles and the nav. wheels can be changed. check mmi version and demand that it be updated to 41.40 or better. also demand a v9 NAV disc.
price seems high to me, especially on the 2nd one. CPO's worth about $1500, so factor that into your negotiations when comparing to non-cpo.
good luck!

Go with the lower mileage one, then get some 18's from tirerack. use the 17's for winters. can't remember but what's in the tech and weather package for the 06's? Although the Navy and Amaretto leather is a classy combination.

neither. For that price range you can get a nice 4.2 with an s6 front end conversion or if you are not a car nut and/or are just going for better mpg's then Id go for the one with lower mileage...bargain him down though its to expensive

Without question for me, the color combo on car B is gorgeous. However, the price variance for a car with almost double the miles as car A doesn't seem right.
In my opinion, YOU have to love looking at the car every day and these are two very different looks. If you're indifferent about the colors, I would go with the one with lower miles and Nav (a must-have for me).
Good luck!

Hey Pierre,
That is the way I'm leaning. The low mileage car I drove after driving two others that had rattles and felt "really old" but this car felt like I was test driving a brand new vehicle. It was tight, engine was super responsive and when I slammed on the brakes (sales guy was not too impressed despite my warning lol) the car stopped straight with no vibrations or adverse feel.
These prices are typical of cars I've been looking at, at several Audi dealers.

You are certainly right about the navy blue/Ameretto combination. The interior was so warm and inviting I could sit in there all day without driving. The platinum gray interior by comparison was cold and sterile. I think that is my biggest issue between the two cars. I love the Ameretto interior and not excited about the gray.

I'm not interested in the 8 cylinder engine. It uses more gas and costs more to service and maintain. I also drive 55 miles round trip to work so the 8 will cost more to run.
I negotiated hard with both dealers and told both I was going to another to test drive and neither one would lower the car's sale prices. All I got from both was an extra $500 (lower mileage car dealer) and $1000 (higher mileage car dealer) on my trade. The dealer with the higher mileage car called me about 20 minutes after I'd left to offer me another $500 on my trade bringing their trade increase to $1000.
It's possible that they would not lower their prices because both cars had just arrived at the dealerships and perhaps they feel they'd sell them at full asking price?

That is my dilemma, I much prefer the blue/amaretto combination and because it has Tech Pkg and 18" wheels. However, that 19K miles versus 36K miles is hard to ignore. Yes, the Nav is a must have for me as well and both have it.
I said that to the sales manager that how come their car with higher mileage is only $1000 less than the other car. He said that their car had the tech pkg ($3800), weather pkg ($400) and 18" wheels ($900) making their car over $5K more expensive to start with. They also gave me an extra $1K on my trade and their car is $1K less so I'd be saving $2K there as well.

My thoughts - If they both feel good and have been well-cared for and have all the right options (which it seems they do), I would go with the blue/amaretto. I have black/amaretto and I made sure i got that amaretto interior at any cost. I even had to give up sport seats to get amaretto. You will not get tired of it and I think you will enjoy getting in your car for a longer time if that color does it for you.
It's not like your comparing a car with 5K miles...both these cars have been broken in and with proper care, those extra miles should not have "worn" out the higher mileage car significantly more.
Whatever you get, just enjoy it and don't look back.

Here is my opinion - unless you have never bought used cars before or have a coupe of thousand laying around that can either be burn or given to someone else then go ahead and buy the 2 cars above. The price is ridiculous. If it was 07 or 08 with around 35-40k miles then maybe but come on it's an 06. Pay me 1k and give me 1 month, I will get a nice car with the color of your choice with the mile you want, the condition you like for 28-29k includig tax and everything.

Bluesander, what exactly is your point?
No, I've never bought a used car before and no, I don't have money to burn because I work hard for everything I own. I'm not sure if you've misunderstood and think I plan on buying both when I'm trying to decide which ONE is the car I should go for.
Regarding the prices, I don't think they're rediculous or I wouldn't be considering them. I don't think $29900 for a well equiped A6 3.2Q with only 19K miles on it is crazy. A little expensive yes. Also, based on much research of similar cars the price is in range of $28K to $30K depending on equipment.
Your sarcasm and great wit are greatly appreciated!

uhm i didn't mean to be offensive but those are on the very high side. I learn that one of the tip in buying used car is trying to look for a "normal" one with acceptable price. 19k is low but that's for 3 years long. Do you think someone is really gonna purchase a car over almost 60k and drive less than 7k per year? maybe yes for an exotic car but for the A6? I would stay away from it regardless it's coming from the orignal owner or an Audi dealer. If you like 06, find one in the 35-40k miles range at around 18-20k. My friend just got a fully loaded 05 A6 for 14k with 68k miles from original owner. That's a very good deal. Also, the first 5-10k miles are very very important. Everthing after that is just numbers after numbers (unless, someone really want to trash the car). an extra 2-3k you're paying out for 20k-30k miles will be gone + depreciation of the car itself by next year.

I hear your point but I'm looking for a car with nothing more than 35K-36K and a CPO because I want that 100K / 6 years warranty. For me it takes a lot of the risk out of buying a used car. I don't care about the depreciation once I buy it because I plan to drive this car into the ground so one in good condition is more important than saving a few bucks short term as long as it serves me well for the next 6 years. Everyone has different priorities when purchasing anything and mine are quality, durability and the CPO warranty for as little as cash as I can get it for.

I bought my CPO '06 4.2 with S-Line, Tech, Cold, Sport Seats and paddle shifters, 33k miles for $22.5k last month. Bought it in Maine, I live in NJ.
BTW, I love the dark blue with amaretto interior.

Prices seem high to me, i know my bud purchased 2006 a6 3.2, loaded, <40K miles for 21K. Not sure if he got 17 or 18 inch wheels. I will double check with him to see what options he had. This was purchased form a dealer in jersey.

You have to get the car that you love, 36K vs 19K miles is 1.5 oil changes. No point in getting a car with colors you are indifferent to, that's like getting a Camery or an Accord, blah but it gets the job done.
As others have said, the prices are high, even for CPO. I bought mine for $27K, basically the same car as your car B, I know I overpaid a bit but at the time I just wanted to get rid of my Acadia and the dealer was able to find the exact car I wanted on short notice, from Ohio. I am the type willing to pay extra to get superb service, plus I knew I will be using them for service. But since you will most likely not use the selling dealer for service, no point parting with more money than necessary. With the number of A6 coming off of lease I think a fair price is around the $23-24K range for car B. The residual value for our A6s are just not that high, the dealer is probably quoting from residual from lease, not market residual.
As you said, both cars have full service history, if there is nothing glaring between the two histories I don't think that mileage difference will be a big penalty to longevity. If you want, I'll call up my dealer and see if they can find the car you want and give you a quote if nothing else then just as comparison. I don't mind bugging them, hell I want them to work for my future money, even if it's not for another 5 -6 years. haha.

Mike, you're right that I won't be using either of these dealers for servicing as they're in central CT and I'm near Boston. I did get a call today from the sales manager for the Midnight Blue / Amaretto car and he knocked of another $750 saying it is as low as he can go. So the price for that is going to be just over $28K. This is after they added another $500 to my trade over the phone on Sat. He said to me today that they really want my 2008 VW R32 with 15K miles. These guys have both Audi and VW dealers right next to one another and he said he'd sell my R32 in no time. My car is super clean and not a mark on it anywhere. So, this moves me even closer to the Midnight Blue / Amaretto car.
If you didn't mind reaching out to your dealer and asking if they can find a Midnight Blue/Amaretto or Beige/Amaretto that would be great. I did find one in Huntington Station NY but it was a commercial vehicle with no service records so I wouldn't touch it.
