I'm thinking about trading my B5 A4 in for a new A3 2.0TQ. I've always driven manual tranny cars, but think I can live with the DSG....er..I mean S-tronic.
Anyone recently make the switch from an A4 to A3? Likes/dislikes/regrets?
Any input appreciated.
Thanks

I have not made a switch from a4 to a3, but I do have an A3 2.0T DSG... And If I was to do it again, I'd go with the manual 6 speed. While the DSG is really slick, it is a little funky in tight quarters. You are not in control of the feathering of the clutch, and if you have the brake on it doesnt try to go... and if you take your foot off of the brake, and dont touch the gas, it electronically engages the clutch and you begin to go...
Also when you place it in park on a hill, it rolls considerably more than a classic automatic before the "park pin" is engaged. So you will roll forward or back more than you might expect.
Lastly its tricker in the snow b/c you are not directly controlling the clutch. Just my 2 cents.

I went from a 330 to a A3 3.2. So I can only speak of the tranny to DSG switch.
I love DSG it is smooth, brilliant and performance is amazing. With that it I have had DSG now for over 3 years and I certainly miss driving a manual to be honest.
Positive:
- Performance unmatched.
- Wife can drive it without concern.
- When I don't feel like rowing I don't have to like in traffic.
Negative:
- Less interactive.
