Just wondering how the car is with a 1 year old in the back. Will I need to take pain killers taking her in and out?

I have a nine-month old in a rear-facing and have no problems. It has taken some effort on my part, sure, but it's a lot easier now that she's out of the newborn phase (so I can buckle her in with the seat already in the car). We have a Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP, which is the smallest rear-facing infant available from a length perspective (from my research).

I have a rear facing 2 month old in the passenger rear side, and a front facing 3.5 year old in the driver side rear seat. the front facing is no problem, and my 3.5 year old climbs in and out himself pretty much.

The rear facing seat on the passenger side is a bit of a problem. the passenger side front seat cannot recline very much at all, and even for my 5'4" wife its a bit uncomfortable to ride. From the perspective of getting them in and out of the car its not that big of a deal. Although, I am not the primary go getter of the kids, so I have a little skewed perspective.

My situation seems to be similar to yours since mine as well will not be used as the primary car.

Thanks for the info.

. . . unless you are 'her':)

Graco ComfortSport front-facing in the right seat.
Graco SnugRide (rear-facing infant) in the left seat.

The trick is patience:
- move the front passenger seat all the way forward
- reach through & put kid in seat
- 'sit' in the footwell with your back resting on the front seat's back (this is the key)
- buckle brat in
- climb out
- same for the infant seat, but you're reaching over to the left side (still sitting on the right)

Yeah, it took a couple times to figure out the gymnastics, but it's not at all painful, difficult, or fatigueing.

The SnugRide just fits behind me (5'10") without me having to scoot up.
