View Full Version : MMI update on 2005 A6 3.2 with Navteq V4 disk
tania90 03-17-2009, 10:18 PM My 2005 A6 3.2 has the well know issue of losing surround sound setting.
I talked to Livermore Audi to do the MMI update.
But according to them I need to have the Navteq V5 DVD before they will do it.
My car came with the V4 DVD.
They want me to buy the $200/- map update DVD.
The miles on my car is 49k so I have very little time before warranty expires.
What can be done?
Thanks,
Roy
BP-Hatzer3 03-18-2009, 12:09 AM Navteq delivers the update for navigation data only.
For updating the MMI u need the update-CDs from Audi which are about 3 bucks.

If it's still under warranty, they're obligated to provide v5 at their cost, although they may try to claim the TSB has expired.
I doubt you'd have too much trouble finding someone with a v5 disc to give you anyway, but you really should buy the most recent version...
utripn 03-18-2009, 08:46 AM they upgraded mine to the latest version because of the surround feature not working properly, but they told me i will need the V5 nav disc if you want some of the new nav features to work, but it was not mandatory. just FYI
tania90 03-18-2009, 09:23 AM So did they give you the V5 DVD?
I have to talk to Livermore Audi and if they do not agree I will have to try some other dealer.
BP-Hatzer3 03-18-2009, 09:50 AM You get the MMI update when you have troubles with your Audi, this is part of warranty.
A new Navteq Navigation DVD is not because the old one (v4) is still working.
It is not part of warranty to keep your car software up to date.

Incorrect in the US. TSB clearly states a DVD V5 disc is required when customer only has v4 and an MMI update is necessary.
TSB PDFs are in my sig if you'd like to review.

v5 is required to prevent compatibility probs.
tania90 03-19-2009, 09:17 AM Talked to Livermore Audi.
They are adament that I will have to pay $350/- for upgrading the navteq disk to V5.
According to them it is not provided free.
I even forwarded them the TSB from pierreb signature.
They say that is not a TSB from Audi but from some third party which independent garages use.
I am really pissed.

Jersey John 03-19-2009, 10:04 AM Is the Nav disc upgrade just a plug-and-play or would I have to go through a multi-step process as I did with my MMI. I have V5 but am considering upgrading to a new version.
Thx
tania90 03-19-2009, 10:13 AM I am not sure as I have not done it myself but I guess it should as easy as swapping out the DVD from the Navigation DVD ROM Drive on the driver side trunk back.

you swap DVDs in the trunk, get inside the car and follow the prompts on the MMI screen.
It's really, very very easy.
tania90 04-20-2009, 09:13 AM Finally got it the updated Navigation DVD under warranty from Steven Creek Audi, San Jose, CA
Thanks to for the detailed instruction pierreb.

rgarretson 12-31-2009, 09:22 AM I would like to update my MMI and DVD NAV. Is there any insight you can give me to go about this process. I have the DVD NAV v4 like you did and have MMI version 1070. The car is not under warranty. What would be the correct process? Do I Get a v5 first, update the NAV then get the latest MMI update or is there a specific version I should go with for my car? How much does the MMI CD cost from the dealer? Does my 2005 stop at a specific version?

You don't need version 5 or higher nav disc to update your MMI. You just need the correct mmi discs (two them, i forgot the part numbers).
In fact, I still use my old nav disc with my updated MMI and have had no problems other than getting a message sometimes that says "navigation not active" when in fact it is.
rgarretson 01-01-2010, 06:12 AM Yes, I get the Navigation not active as well, I would like to have the latest maps and have it function properly.... Good question r1racer what major improvments would i get from upgrading the MMI from my version 1070 to the newest?????
rgarretson 01-01-2010, 06:25 AM Anyone know how much does the dealership charges for the MMI disks? I could call Monday but just want to ask the group.

Biggest noticeable difference will be telephone connectivity. There are also some differences with stability of radio setings. The majot improvements were accomplished by version 33.6.
As far as upgrading the Nav software, it really all boils down to content. If you live in an area where there is continued development, or if you want up to date information regarding locations of attractions, then upgrade the nav software.

Anyone know if the neccessary hardware is present for the bluetooth connectivity even if the car did not ship with the phone connectivity in the MMI? In other words is there a possibility to get the additional functionality by upgrading the MMI software?
Cheers,
/Fredrik
