I was sick and tired of not having a sling on my GSG-5, so I bought one. I'm fine with a two point sling and didn't wanna spend $30 on a cheap looking GSG-5 nylon sling with a plastic buckle. The sling I chose was a surplus H&K G3 leather rifle sling which was $9.99. I got the sling from Cope's Distributing. The leather is in good used condition, well broken in and flexible, not dried out. The metal is in excellent condition.
The sling looked like it was gonna be plug and play, but it took some fitting to get it to work. The main problem is the leather is too thick to fit under the buttstock rear sling swivel.
What I did was I took a razor blade and sharpened up the "nose" of the sling so it could fit under the sling roller. This still wasn't enough to make it work. The leather was just too thick. There was just not enough clearance. I tried to cut the leather in half with a razor blade, but that wasn't as easy as I thought it would be so I focused my attention on the sling swivel itself. After ruling out cutting with a dremel tool as being too destructive, I decided to dent the metal with a punch and a hammer. A little bit of pounding later, and the sling fits very snugly.
I am happy with the results.
