I have a P225 and an old single shot 16 ga dove gun.

Looking to get a good hunting rifle and another handgun I think.

Seems like I have to go to a real store.

but it depends on the dealer. Some will work with you, others won't.

no matter where you are it needs to go through a local FFL from whom you p/u the gun in person. That said, some interweb dealers are set up to deal with transfers to CA, others are not.

approved list.

Talk to a dealer first to make sure they'll do a transfer. Reed's in San Jose is decent, I've bought a lot from there.

In CA, I think you still have to go through a dealer.

dealer or a private individual. A dealer is required to run a NICS check on you in every state. In California, a private purchase will still have to go through a dealer to register the gun and run a NICS check.

don't carry much. I guess they are all larger sporting goods stores, so they focus on ammo and fishing gear.
