View Full Version : Ammo Supply Question... How much do you keep on hand, bulk versus quality Ammo.

My personal example: 45 ACP

I've got a couple thousand rounds of generic FMJ rounds for practice, etc.

When it comes to good JHP rounds, I've only got a couple hundred...

What are you guys doing for your ammo supplies. Bulk vs Specality (match, jhp, etc)?

I reload my own "bulk" with the same weight JHP as the purchased "quality" ammo, which includes 9mm, .357 Mag, and .45 ACP. Because of the legal horror stories of shootings with personal reloads, I use only factory ammo for self defense.

I reload all .30 Carbine, 45-70, .45 Colt, and .454 Casull and have ample supplies of powder, brass, bullets, and primers (except I wish I had more of the rare-as-hens-teeth small rifle primers for the .454 Casull).

I don't reload my 7x57, .380, or the .22LR (obviously), though I do have several bricks of the last stashed away.

5.56 is the only other significant caliper I don't reload at all. I have a pile of Federal Lake City XM193 for plinking and a slightly smaller pile of Hornady 5.56 75 gr TAP for serious endeavors and/or hunting.

buy cheaper ammo at the range.

Those are already semi-delivered at the nearest smoldering 7/11, saving the donuts.

It's all Lake City. My other calibers 50-100 rounds, all JHP.

if i go through 100 or 200 of the calibers.

i'd barter ammo for medication.

rounds some guys have. If you need a thousand rounds, you're probably gonna get dead before getting the chance to fire that many.

That said, I'd love to have 1000+ rds of every caliber I use stockpiled...just because.

because they may be hard or impossible to get later, depending on what laws get passed.
