What's the black "plastic" thing on the grip? Is that some sort of 'grippy' thing?

looks like a decent gun for self defense. I don't care for the large 'tab' on the Kimber safety, at least for concealed carry. Those sights look like they might snag on things, too.

Looks like a reasonable choice for leaving on your bedside table for SD.

with all that said, I have a full size Kimber 1911 Custom II.

something with a rail you can mount a light on, then just buy the crimson trace grips aftermarket. oh, and that kimber custom crimson carry was the cover shot for this years guns and ammo annual buyers guide as well as february 2009 shooting illustrated.
