Leaning towards monster man grip version, has normal mag release... All would be 10 round mags though...

Anything else for CA worthwhile thats similar?

They have three ways to be CA compliant and this is one of them. Since this silly grip isn't a "pistol grip", it doesn't count as one of the two features that would categorize this as an assault weapon in CA. That means that he can use ordinary detachable magazines.

The other options address things like length by not having a folding stock.

The one with an ordinary pistol grip requires tools to insert/remove the magazine.

The question becomes, which feature are you most willing to part with? In this example, it's the pistol grip.
