View Full Version : Want Softer suspension...swap S-Line suspension?

I live in a city and surrounding area with TERRIBLE streets. The S-Line suspension only seems to magnify this fact. Is there a swap out there that would make the suspension much smoother? At this point I would happily trade handling for a smoother ride. I don't race my car or have the need for a sport suspension anyway. I would rather have a car that is enjoyable to drive and doesn't feel like it is going to shake itself to death on less than perfect roads.

I have checked and set my air pressure to exactly what the manual says, so I know the suspsension is what is making the ride so harsh.

Any ideas? Any aftermarket kits that would give me a smoother ride? Can one swap S-Line companents for standard A3 components?

TIA

You'd have to go with softer springs and replace the shocks/struts as well. It wouldn't be cheap.

So it would not be too hard to swap out your suspension/shocks for lower end ones, even getting some money out of it.

Other choice would be to switch to Koni FSD shocks, which are soft on high freq movements like bumps but hard on low freq ones like squats or cornering.

I switched to STaSIS Streetsport co's and still have my premium shocks and springs. You're welcome purchase them from me if you want. They only have about 3k miles on them. I believe they are a little softer than the stock sport setup. PM me if interested.

Do I just replace the shocks and keep the stock springs? I have read about the FSDs and they sound good, but what about the springs?

Sorry for all the questions, I am only experienced in the simplest of mods.

Springs gives a firm feel, but it is the shocks that resists the sudden movement encountered during bumps.

Cheapest way, swap with a non S-line person and maybe get $100 out of it.

I've been running the FSDs w/ Neuspeed sport springs for about 33k miles now on my GTi. I would highly recommend switching to the FSDs and stay with the stock springs. I think the ride would be more of what you're looking for. The Neuspeed sport springs with FSDs actually improved the ride quality as well as the handling over the stock GTi suspension, and the GTi handles pretty good right out of the box. I was skeptical too until I did the install. 33K miles later and I'm still happy with the ride quality and handling.

Hope this helps.

Another vote for FSD. I went with OEM Euro spring and definitely a more comfortable ride than S-line.
