4:12pm, Cherry Hill, NJ - Finish Christmas shopping for Mom. Pull out of Bed Bath and Beyond and onto Rt. 70 due west. The clouds have given us a wintry mix of rain, ice, and snow.
Still in the right lane going about 45, a Minivan pulls out of some back street and clips my front passenger side, impacting from front wheel to rear wheel. We both pull over...ask if eachother are OK. It takes the cops 25 mins to arrive.

This sucks.

Let me know what you guys think. I'm gonna go emo for the next few days until the adjuster comes.

Figure about $2K in body work on the 4 panels...maybe a bit more. New wheel. It's possible the tie rod or control arms got a little bent. Add another $1K to cover those and I think you're capped at $3.5K at a body shop. Car's value is probably at least $10K depending on year, mileage and condition, so you're nowhere near the 75% of value threshold. Just get it fixed, should be good as new.

Was the driver of the minivan cooperative? If not, I bet I know where they live... ;)

Don't want to jinx it, but it's definitely not totaled...

key is gonna be the rear quarter. hard to see from your pics, but any compound bends that couldn't or shouldn't be pulled?

I'm feeling fine right now, but no doubt tomorrow I'm gonna wake up with some nasty whiplash on my ride side. I feel it coming on already, the pinched nerves are annoying as hell.

If its not totaled, will the car ever be the same? It'll never feel the same...

Any body shop recommendations?

Only iffy part are the suspension bits behind that wheel, and those are easy enough to swap out. Impact doesn't appear nearly hard enough to cause other structural damage.

Now that I think about it...someone we know did pretty much exactly the same thing (only swap the minivan for a guardrail). :-P Most of the panels were saved in the interests of penny pinching...and I think the bill came to $3K. So you're right...a little higher if you start swapping out for new panels.

It seems like the majore impacted was on the corner of the bumper which means a soft spot in that area, i mean there are no main frame parts maybe just the corner of the reinforcement bar. And being the main impact your wheel area is near the center you may be lucky enough to see no major damage in the suspension area...maybe [crossing fingers]...

Just trying to figure out how that dent happened above the wheel well and how/what caused the damage to the side marker?

And noticed there might be some bumper damage on the lower part near the wheel...

Doesnt look to bad though...

Like everyone else said as long as both partys are ok is the most important part!!!!

Good Luck
