View Full Version : I have read so many people state that they think the S4 looks too much like the A4......

Where have you guys been? They have been so similar since the B6 chassis, and once the B7 came out, they were identical besides wheels and mirror caps.

B6 Ultrasport, B6 S4

They look so similar, both have identical everythink except the front bumper (which still is different than normal A4), the lower exhaust valence in the rear and the stated mirror caps and wheels. To the untrained eye, they could be mistaken for each other. With the trained eye, they both look great, and very similar.

B7 A S-line, B7 S4

Find a difference besides the mirrors, and on later B7 models, the wheels.

B8 A4 S-line, B8 S4

Again, what is different besides the wheels and mirror caps?

I just couldn't stand the constant dogging of the S4 looking too much like the A4, and how it wasn't like that in the past.

Sorry, the pics wouldn't show up all in this page..

Being a current B6 S4 owner and having had a B5 in the past...it always annoyed me that the S4 was so plain and understated...especially once the Ultra Sport or s-line trim levels came out. For a car costing $52k I had expected a little more differentiation.

And they would have a much better argument spending 75k, instead of 50k.

I think the A4 S-line/ultrasport have always looked great, as with the S4's.

Just trying to stir this place up a bit, a little boring.

were unique to only the S (before the S-line showed up which is the problem to me...blurring the difference too much) front was more aggressive over standard with extra lines in the lower openings/fog light area. The B7 is too close to your point of its not that different...i wanted to see them do more with the rear (spoiler or more pronounced integral lip. The B8 the front and rear are nearly identical now and the S-line uses the same sill extension so there is less difference than before, only the grill is different. The base car has taken on more of the design of the higher model so that's my comment. Just a little more exaggeration in the sill extensions/rear spoiler/front lip difference. Like how the TT-S nose is really different from the regular TT for instance.

and i know people see that and think it was an RS or something special (people i know who just equate dark gray and a spoiler with my car and say they saw another one)...and i paid double. I understand the S-line for people to order so Audi makes the $$ off the body kits others would end up doing anyway but it does kinda rub when the average citizen can't tell an S-line from an S.

I would say they could not.

Its all how you think about it. I think the C5 RS6 looks much better than the S-Line 2.7T, the same way I think the RS4 looks much better than the B7 A4 S-Line/S4.

You get the flares, front and rear lower facias etc. I have always thought of Audi's styling as subtle, even the RS cars.

I've griped about this for awhile (and I have a B7 S Line.) The B6 Ultrasport package and S4 were done right, subtle differences and slightly more aggressive on the S4. But now, I'm not a fan of them being identical for the same reason why I cannot stand the fact that Audi adapted all base model A4s to have the S Line body styling on later B7 models. So now (in 2008) you can have a base model A4 with 16" wheels and immense wheel gap with an S Line-badged grill. I don't get it.

I'm considering getting a B8 S4 but am now rethinking getting a B7 RS 4 because it looks too wimpy. Ultimately it will come down to driving both and whether or not I want another B7. I'm also holding out hope that the U.S. version will come with a better wheel package and/or a Titanium package.

And a major BOO on the V6T badge. That will be removed immediately.

too easily noticing. I think all the RS cars are near perfect in the details. But I do think as i said above i would like a little more change like the B6 versions where every view had a difference that beefed up the car and those parts were added on rather than a different piece. The new A4 like the new A5 you can tell that the designers really focused on getting the base car looking excellent as is. So it is much closer to its S and S-line versions with minimal parts to retool or now it seems to be even more plug and play...switch the wheels, grill, the mirror covers and the exhaust tips and you have a faux S4. So its more of a switch than adding.
