The American auto-buying public still prefers the image that goes with SUVs. Until people can overcome that need for some kind of macho posturing that goes along with SUV culture, the Euro-wagon will always face an impossible battle in this market. I'm bummed about it, but I can't argue with the logic behind the decision.

With the prospect of selling so few Avants here, why bother confusing the consumer by offering choices? Just make the decision that 99.9% of them will make anyway.

The ratio of TTS to TT's sold is what? Yes I know it will be limited prodution, but it still has to meet US safety standards. Any Audi that stands out is advertising for Audi. It gets your attention and gets you into the dealer.

The "sportwagon" segment is a small one, but its a loyal one. Audi is pissing away guaranteed sales to S4 Avant buyers (of which I would have been one for the B8). And, as a marketing point, the satisfied S4 Avant owners would tell their and acquaintances how much they love their Audi leading to more interest in Audi products.

Q5 is just another SUV in a crowded sea of SUVs in a slouching economy and tidal wave of high oil prices. Anyone see the Q7 sales are off by 50%. 16mpg will do that.

I've had many people come up and praise the subtle good looks of my Avant. It's a shame the SUV-centric Audi market planners can't see past their next annual bonus what makes up the core Audi market.

I will not be one of them because of the lousy lack of engine selection. On my consideration list now are the diesel offerings from BMW, the new diesel GLK, a CPO RS4, and the new S4 instead. If the Q5 had included a 3.0L TDI option in the US it would have been a no-brainer for me.

...I'm a little pissed off about it really.

2005.5 A4 Avant 2.0T 6 spd. Even the kid at Sears called it the coolest wagon ever.

Come on Audi, give me something real to replace my A3 3.2 that should have had a 6 spd.

If only BMW made an attractive wagon, the 3 and 5 series tourings are ugly as sin. Mercedes wagons are ugly as crap too, and you can't get manuals in them.

Volvo actually makes some decent looking wagons, too bad they have no balls, and or no manual trans. I am hoping for a redesigned S60 and then a new V70R. They were nice, but not as nice as the B6/B7 S4s.

. . . bought 300 B7 S4 avants in 07. The sales numbers speak for themselves. Besides, the fact that our wonderful government forces Audi to crash test the avant separate from the sedan, that throws an extra wrench in the works.
As I said, I'm as disappointed as anyone in here, that was going to be my next car in a couple years . . . but there's nothing we can do about it and it's not Audi's fault. We are stupid for buying so many damn SUVs, I can't stand SUVs.

Lol, I saw an interview with her by Katey Couric and it was AMAZING. She sounded like one of those people Leno interviews on the street and he asks, 'Who's the current VP?' and they say Henry Ford. She is probably the most clueless person in politics, just a complete airhead. She couldn't answer a single question. SCARY! You could see that Katey was floored by how ditsy she was.

60 minutes asked McCain why Biden has been interviewed over 80 times since the nomination and Palin only 2. He stammered and said we'd see her more in the coming weeks. Well... now we know why.

I was thinking same thing, but without a sports or S-Line package, the A6 Avant is LAME.

Gearing is likely taller than the S4 as well. Doubt it will do a sub-6 second 0-60 since it's still a heavy car. IMO 0-60 times are overrated, unless all of your driving is done in 0-60 mph, 6 second intervals.

I had a 2004 6MT; a 2005 tip; and now a 2008 tip. I bought the '08 because of fears (well founded) that the B8S4 Avant would not be brought to the US.

While we are all certainly proud of those who have served this country militarily, it in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM gives license to lying and and filandering as McCain has commited on numerous occasions.

All you can get is the 2.0T in the A4 line for the Avant...not interested.

I'll be looking elsewhere come replacement time...first time I won't have bought an Audi in over 10 years.
