That would make everyone happy. Not sure why that could not be done? They have the A4 Avant federally certified. How much more would it cost Audi to do this. Perhaps they don't want to be bothered . Probably believe that they will force those buyer to buy the Q5 instead.

A4 Avant has a different engine and transmission and since even heated seats play a role in certification perhaps the money spent on certifying each model is not warranted for 200 S4 Avants.

well you could always have one privately imported... expensive yes but its a sure fire way to get one here.

Well, you could always order an Avant unibody as parts from Canada and do a swap. I'm sure there will be a few totaled S4s in salvage yards in a couple of years. I would imagine all the electrical and mechanical would be bolt-on. You might need doors and interior panels, but if you want one bad enough, you have to make some sacrifices...

The harder the certification process is then the more expensive it gets to sell the car and thus giving an advantage to local manufactures...

The crash testing, certification isn't worth it to sell 100 avants a year

get over it, if you like STATION WAGONS you have horrible taste and 99% of people in the U.S. would agree. Audi is doing you a favor by not selling something nobody wants so that you don't look like a d-bag.
