how do you think it might work? Just ban on sales of Assault Weapons, or do you think it might go as far as anyone who owns one would be required to turn it in?
Just curious on people's thoughts and any political proposals that might already be floating around WA DC to be aware of.

Ban any rifle with Two or more of the following items.
-------------------------------
Folding or telescoping stock
Pistol grip
Bayonet mount
Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
Grenade launcher (more precisely, a muzzle device which enables the launching or firing of rifle grenades)
So an AR15 rifle with a telescoping stock and a pistol grip would be illegal. Fixed length stock and a pistol grip is okay as long as the rifle doesn't have a flash hider.
That is what makes an Assault weapon different from a semi automatic sporting rifle.

It's not like I could afford to shoot full auto all that much anyway.

I think since its conception, there has been only on incident and that was a domestic issue between husband and wife.
contrary to what the movies portray, full automatic gun battles between cops and robbers ala "heat" and "miami vice" is pure fiction.
Repealing the NFA would make the weapons just as easy to get as an AR15, and that could be very bad cause a full auto can deliver devastating amounts of damage.

.50 cal weapons are being made illegal in New York State. There is no grandfathering, you have to turn it in and the police will pay you no more than $8500 for your weapon. Great comfort for anyone owning an M82...

Even on a crazy finger day, a semi-auto is no where close to a full auto.
I do think they should repeal the 1986 and 1968 laws. I would increase the tax stamp to approximately 2000 dollars per domestically made item. And 4000 dollars per imported item.
thats is still a poor approximation of adjustement for inflation.
In the long run this will make both sides happy.
Some of you guys are going to say keep the tax at 200 dollars. Here's why I wouldn't do that. One of the byproducts of the 1968 and 1986 bans was that the price of the weapons went through the roof. So it'd be like driving a Ferrari to go rob a convenience store. Thus, for now, most NFA items are in the hands of relatively affluent individuals, and that sector of the populatiion is pretty law abiding when it comes to voilent crime. So if you were to keep the 200 tax stamp, and you now have people across the country legally making 100 dollar sten guns (as an example).
I think if they 1934 act had a provision for inflation the 1968 and 1986 acts would have never been written.

In the Star Trek episode where they landed on the planet that resembled 1920's Chicago, lots of characters had full-auto Tommy-like guns. Then Kirk and Spocko came down with their heaters and upped the ante. The next thing you know the Federation is taking their cut as a piece of the action.

and the 2nd amendment should allow people to have the same weapons that an infantryman would carry, anyways. want to be constitutional? make an amendment, don't pass a law
