They make no mention of type or caliber of weapon, whom the owner was or how a 4 year-old got his hands on the weapon in the first place.

Aren't reporters supposed to ask questions?<ul><li><a href="http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/378361_boyshot10.html">http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/378361_boyshot10.html</a</li></ul>

than to stall the story while you gather the facts.

Bad news is gold. Detailed news is a waste of time that could be better spent chasing other bad news.

Reading the news in the firearms thread tonight is making me depressed.

The days of reporters actually collecting the "W" questions, Who, Where, What, Why, etc., are long gone. You may have learned in high school that doing this is elementary journalism. I know I did. Unfortunately, modern college journalism programs seem to teach throwing that silly stuff out the window, and writing to further an agenda rather than reporting basic facts, and leaving it to the reader to interpret the event.
