Anyone out there have/use a Sig 556 rifle? Interestingly enough firing the 5.56mm round..
A friend is looking for a good inexpensive 223 rifle. The problem with most of the REALLY good 223s that use a gas piston is they're expensive as hell like Original 550s, Ar-180s, HKs, Galils. Now there are plenty of US made copies of these above guns which use some of the imported parts while the vast majority are US parts.

The Sig 556 is Obviously a weird homologation of the 550 and US made parts some from an AR15 to make them legal here in the US. I would imagine 10 Swiss parts from the 550 and the rest have to be US made parts so its not a TRUE sig (100% swiss made).

Ive heard mixed reviews. IMO its got a gas piston so that gives it a leg up on the AR15 right there.

never heard a bad review.

as for not 100% swiss... my sig 229 has usa parts, too.

I don't think any of the 556 is Swiss, I am not even sure that Sig has a Swiss plant anymore. I think they are just German and US now.

The Robinson's not exactly cheap, but it's a well made rifle and the two that I've shot have been ridiculously accurate with South African ammo.

over the ejection port. Do ejected cases clear a folded stock?

There are several stock options and of course you can add one of your choosing. The Robinson folding stock folds out of the way but doesn't block access to the trigger or ejection port.

I've seen stocks that do both telescoping and folding and they usually block some part of the action when folded. Not that people buy rifles with the intention of shooting them with the stock folded, but it's just one more example of an eye towards design.

I've shot both the Sig 556 and XCR and I bought the XCR. Nothing wrong with the 556, I just preferred the XCR.

If you really want to learn more about the XCR, they've got lots of info on their site at www.robarm.com. They have videos showing how to disassemble the gun or how to change calibers and sometimes you can learn more about a gun from this than just reading about it.
