View Full Version : Fvck, PMC changed my ammo :(
Richard Solomon 01-11-2008, 08:51 AM I should have been suspicious that I could still buy the old StarFire ammo from CTD. Longer OAL, differet bullet design, etc.
Sigh. Now to decide if I requal it or switch to something more mainstream and requal that.
Decisions, decisions.
What's AWF's favorite 9mm defense ammo?

Thermal 01-11-2008, 09:54 AM I was like "HOLY CRAP MY FAVORITE AMMO OF ALL TIME MOTHERFVKCING WHOOOO" and it was like 50 rounds for only $12. But when I got it I found out Triton went out of business and the handgun patents were bought lock and stock by Amerc... the makers of some of the ****tiest stuff on the planet. The ammo was in horrible condition. I bought 500 rounds and I'm using it for target practice ammo since it was cheaper than WWB. Nasty brass (not nickle plated like the original triton) and virtually impossibly unsemtrical lead filling and completely random bullet weights.

Richard Solomon 01-11-2008, 12:52 PM to even bother with it. Sigh. Me == pwnt.

Richard Solomon 01-11-2008, 01:24 PM These might well be perfectly decent ammo, but the HP design is slightly different (larger central channel) and the bullets are slightly longer.
I picked Starfire almost 20yrs ago because it had the highest energy and expanded best of all the commercial HPs we tried - and was also cheap (<$5/20 at the time).
It might still be high energy and good expansion, but I don't know as I've lost my buddy w/a chrono and have little/no time for ammo evals any more :(
Wonder if CTD will take ammo back? :( :( :( If not I guess I'll shoot it up, but I'm pissed and I'm inclined to change for no other reason than that.
Richard Solomon 01-11-2008, 01:26 PM I never liked the 147gr, but the 124gr could be interesting.
Frankly HydraShock is slightly more interesting because I think I could buy it in any town in 'merica if I had to....which is worth something.

Richard Solomon 01-11-2008, 02:39 PM HS was a bit inconsistent while the SF was much more, and opened a bit wider.
Note that both are MUCH better from a carbine!
Richard Solomon 01-11-2008, 04:07 PM But the pictures and description match the "old" stuff, not the "new" stuff they shipped me. Fired an e-mail off to cust svc explaining situation and ammo differences and asking what my options are.

Richard Solomon 01-12-2008, 01:30 PM Customer service rep is going to have the ammo person look into the situation and let me know what's going on and what they can do.
I understand completely that there's a potential liability issue with returned ammo, but this stuff isn't what I ordered and what they show on the site.
If they won't take it back I can't be THAT upset, but it's definitely one of those gray areas that potentially lets customer service shine....
Richard Solomon 01-15-2008, 02:18 PM They agreed that none of *them* would be comfortable with visibly longer ammo and issued an RMA.
Only the 2nd time I've had problems with a Cheaper Than Dirt order and they're still batting 100% on excellent customer service.
