Pistol permit applied for. I inherited the following pistols:

Glock 23, AMT Back-up .45, 1910 Mauser, Nambu, and a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Mag.

I also bought a Ruger .44-40 to go along with the Winchester 1873 and for my birthday in Dec and friend gave me ( once I have my permit, of course ) his Ruger P90.

A nest gift.. he bought it with me telling him to start out with a 9mm for having fun at the range until he had more practice, and it seems he has developed some bad habits with the .45 that he does not have with the 9mm he bought after.

Oddly, the .45 seems to work well for me. So he gave it to me.

Sooo.. opinions on the Glock? Should I be concerned about the lack of safety in an everyday carry piece? The AMT is, of course, smaller, but my experience with smaller guns ( only one single .380 ) was that I could not hit a wall at ten paces.

Just cuz I like watching it....

as for the glock... "...the lack of safety in an everyday carry piece"...

there are safeties on the glock, just not a manual safety.

the most important safety is between your ears. PRACTICE. KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER. DON'T POINT IT AT ANYTHING YOU DON'T WANT TO DESTROY. IT IS ALWAYS LOADED.

i'm not a fan of manual safeties... they give a false sense of safety (no pun intended), they may engage/disengage unknowingly,i don't wnat to remember to effectively disable it in a bad situation.

i do like a DA only or DA/SA for daily carry, though. the extra trigger pull force makes me feel more comfortable for carry.

i really like grip safeties. can't fire unless you are holding it.

and ALWAYS use a holster to cover the trigger.

did i mention... the most important safety is between your ears. PRACTICE. KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER. DON'T POINT IT AT ANYTHING YOU DON'T WANT TO DESTROY. IT IS ALWAYS LOADED.

And do practice very often. I attend IDPA matches, as for advice, read books, and soak up as much as I can from the competitive shooters at my range.

This is one thing you *need* to do right the first time. And every time.

the gun you carry is only has safe as responsible you are, afterall, it takes a finger to pull a trigger.

You wont catch me online talking about ALL the guns I own. but a few that regularly mention are a M&P 45, 870, 10/22, and a 375 H&H, and yes I have more guns, and no you don't need to know what/where they are.

a few thousand times and you'll be so keen on its trigger you'll wonder what the hubbub is all about. Its not the finest firearm ever made but glocks have a real special place in my holster as a gun that just won't stop, is faithfully consisstant and can chamber well formed rocks if given the chance.

Best part is if you want to become a super awesome #1 hero glock armorer expert it takes about 2 minutes to learn the thing inside and out and another 2 minutes to know what to do with all the aftermarket parts.

as everyone else has stated use your brain and get a holster that covers the trigger.

I like the military rolling block? What caliber is it? I have one in 7mm Spanish Mauser.

Also the two long guns in front of it. Are they trapdoors?

Whats above the garand?

It is a Remington 1879 Argentine. I have another much like it upstairs, I will take a pic of that one.

Above the Garand is an Arisaka. 7.7 Jap, also a very nice shooting rifle. Anyone who think sthe Japs shot peashooters at the Marines should fire one of these. I find both those guns to be very accurate and very easy to shoot.

And yes, two Trapdoors. Those things make big big holes.

I have never fired, and probably never will fire, the rolling blocks. I should sell them to someone who would appreciate them.
