The allroad, for instance, is rated at 5000 lbs EU, 3500 USA.

The only difference AFAIK is the euro hitch has a couple slightly stronger welds vs the US one.

Nevertheless, the car/chassis is the same, so why wouldn't Audi create the same tow package for both places?

Is there some sort of DOT legality that restricts things, or is it strictly a marketing decision, i.e. 'Americans don't tow trailers with Audis' so lets limit our liability and save a tad on the hitch package?
