two different tests, you won't get 32 mpg combined from the EPA. Expect about 26 mpg combined from the EPA for 32 mpg European combined. Or something like 23/29

the way we drive here in the US compared to how traffic flows over there?

the European test has very low city figures, say 16 and high highway figures, say 32 and 24 combined. the same car in the US would be rated something like 20/28 back in the day, or 24 combined. Usually in the past US combined ratings were just a bit lower Now with the new ratings, it becomes 18/25.

i would say the european test makes more sense as real city fuel economy is usually lower than the EPA, but pure highway driving quite often brings higher than epa fuel economy.

All of this is just based on some observations and is probably not extra accurate. But, it is harder to estimate new EPA ratings now based on European fuel economy.

I owned a 2006 Jetta TDI and the nice thing that most owners realize is that it consistently gets better than the city mpg stated on the sticker. On the highway, it was getting close to the highway number on the sticker. I only had 11,000 miles when I traded it in for my Cayman :) Everyone says with the diesels, that they only get better with the more miles you put on them. Supposedly they don't really hit their peak mpg till about 40,000 miles.
