The choices that the Germans get... both gas and diesel...

1.8 FSI, 1.8 TFSI, 2.0 FSI, 2.0 TFSI, 3.2 FSI, 2.0 TDI (120hp), 2.0 TDI (143hp), 2.0TDI (170hp), 2.7 TDI, 3.0 TDI.

Maybe a bit extreme for the North American market but the 170hp 2.0TDI would be a nice alternative vs the 3.0TDI from a cost perspective if performance isn't a high on the must-have list.
