The car I WANT will be $48,000+. I just don't know if I want to spend that much. On the other hand, it might depreciate less than my 401k.

View Full Version : <sigh> Don't know if I can talk myself into getting an Avant. kerrydel1 10-02-2008, 09:47 AM The car I WANT will be $48,000+. I just don't know if I want to spend that much. On the other hand, it might depreciate less than my 401k. Kerry Hokie_Audi 10-02-2008, 09:54 AM The egregious $2500 for the NAV system will sting the pooper less if it goes toward the 3G MMI system that's puportedly coming in 2010, amongst other reasons such as my fervent hope for a 3.0TDI showing up and general fiscal responsibility. kerrydel1 10-02-2008, 10:04 AM fracisco 10-02-2008, 10:06 AM But the Passat 2.0T Lux Wagon is back in the trade space. I don't need Quattro in SoCal, and some extra bucks in pocket every month won't be so bad. I'm an after New Years buyer in any case, so I'll see what the prices look like then. kerrydel1 10-02-2008, 10:40 AM I really WANT a Prestige with Nav and ADS. What I'll end up getting is still a question. K. Hokie_Audi 10-02-2008, 10:41 AM In the back of my mind I'm kicking around what to do when the sedan is offered with a TDI and the Avant isn't. That's going to be harder to suss out. At the present I'm doing just fine with my B5 sedan but looking forward I can see how the added versatility of the Avant would be nice. And then on the other hand you have "mad TDI POWAH" as all the cool kids with poor diction are saying these days. What to do? If the same engine is available in both the decision is easy. But if the Avant stays 2.0T only and the 3.0TDI sedan is as pants-****tingly-awesome as I believe it to be... ehhhh... I dunno... kerrydel1 10-02-2008, 10:52 AM I REALLY don't want to wait past March or so. Plus the 2X $500 discounts are only good till the end of the year (I think). K. Mpls2.7T 10-02-2008, 02:13 PM Kerry - I know what you're saying. I have a C5 A5 sedan now and I'm not totally convinced about going to an Avant. But, I think if I go smaller, the space of the Avant will be good. Besides - it looks GREAT in a B8. Hokie_Audi - I'm in the same boat you are. I have a C5, want a 3.0TDI B8 Avant but don't know what I will do if they only bring the sedan to the US. (Maybe it's a Legacy thing, my Dad went to VT, though I didn't) FYI - a friend has been driving a 2.5 TDI B7 Avant in europe and loves it. He says that cruising the freeway at 100MPH it gets approximately 50 MPG and it has plenty of power. I sat in the B8 for the first time this morning. Unfortunately, I was at the dealer early for service and no sales people were in so I couldn't take a test drive. First impressions of the B8, very nice, exterior styling rocks, interior materials not quite as nice as in my C5. cohenfive@yahoo.com 10-03-2008, 07:44 AM am i crazy or is it going to be difficult to sell the new avant with a 4 cylinder engine (albeit a great one) for $47k without either audi select or nav?? considering 2 year old ones in great shape are in the mid $20's that may be a tall order even with limited volumes. i just can't see people reaching here...i was hoping to have my wife take a look at one but at that price it's a no-go for us. |
