View Full Version : Just checked the Audi site. Did we lose the tire pressure monitoring?

Can't find it in features, specs or Build configurator. It was definitely on the last order guide.

Marjorie,
Can you tell me if the TPMS system in the new A4 is active, using individual sensors mounted to each wheel to monitor pressure, or if it is a passive system that counts the revolutions of each wheel to determine if one has low pressure? Thanks in advance!

Blake, our TPMS system uses sensors in each wheel.

I don't care for them personally. Wish they would take them off. I find them to be a major PITA.

A couple of reasons. First they add more unbalanced weight to the wheel which in turn has to be offset by lead weights on the opposite end of the rim. The other major reason is that I like to use aftermarket wheels, which means I have to go out and buy a second set of 400+ USD sensors or I have to pay the labor to take them out of my factory wheels. Then, when I want to go back to factory, they have to be removed and reinstalled again into the original wheels. This is one of those laws that was put into place because there are those out there that never even glance at their tires much less check the air psi. Most of us on this forum know about cars and understand how to check the tires at regular intervals. Just another example of the GOV having to step in to protect us against ourselves. Just think the whole idea about mandatory TPMS is kinda lame.

I think Audi's base stereo (SD,aux input) may be the best from a usability standpoint.

you put wheels on w/o the sensors? Is there a system requirement like some kind of constant alert or blue smoke emerging from the MMI?

get a bit annoying after too long. There may be a way to VAG the car and remove the warning though. I havent seen the specifics posted yet though.
