View Full Version : 2 more weeks until my B8?! Also VIN# decode
Mobilehavoc 08-12-2008, 04:19 PM Called my dealer today and he told me the current ETA for my B8 was 8/25/08. He then faxed me, at my request, the status page which had a bunch of other B8 orders and mine listed as well (mine's the only one that says SOLD, the others are SHIP).
Looks like the VIN is there for mine and the other cars listed as arriving on 8/25/08. Status says In Transit From Factory. When is the VIN# assigned? Is it done at the end of manufacturing or earlier?
Should I take comfort in that the VIN# is available to mean it really could be here in 2 weeks?
Also what is the VIN# decode for Audi? i.e. I remember with VW from years ago that each character for the first few means something like where it was made, week, etc.
Any ideas?
Mobilehavoc 08-12-2008, 04:25 PM Here's my order:
2009 8K256L A4 2.0 SEDAN 4-DR AUTO QUATTRO
A2A2 (Brilliant Black)
GR (Cardamom Beige)
1QE (Northeast Region Emiss)
6W3 (Front License Plate holder)
PNK (Audi Navigation)
WPS (Premium Plus)
$40,025 out the door. only $25 over budget...I'll live :)
seoultrain 08-12-2008, 04:37 PM mmmmm, black on beige rules.
What state are you in? i.e. how much did that cost before taxes?
Sorry, no insight I can offer on your VIN.
Mobilehavoc 08-12-2008, 04:49 PM Thanks...the $40,025 IS before taxes :(
I did a partial decode myself looking at various sites on Google.
According to them, the car was manufactured at the Ingolstadt factory in Germany but the rest can't be decoded yet because too new still.
I don't count taxes in the price since it's a constant...death and taxes..can't avoid either.
Audi4orce 08-12-2008, 04:52 PM Its programed in to the main frame computer and its down hill from there.
Remember, it takes about 2-3days from factory to train. Two weeks to cross the pond.<East coast> 1 week at the port, 1 week to get it to your dealership(more time if you live in the middle of the country)
Audi is fast when it comes to making your car if you have placed an order. Four weeks if you're lucky with the spray booths. Meaning if you order silver and the day they receive your order, the spray booths are painting silver..<giddy> If you miss the paints booths add an extra 1-2 weeks. Total 5-6 weeks for the longest. Just a heads up, dont order before or after October, Bad Bad Bad<points and shakes finger>
My Audi was build 3/26 and i drove off the lot on 4/3

Mobilehavoc 08-12-2008, 05:05 PM Yeah, my pre-order actually went in back in early June so there's a chance it could be here in two weeks. I'm leasing it so as long as it lasts 3 years without issues I'm fine :)
Audi4orce 08-12-2008, 05:15 PM Come think of it.....Audiworld does have a factory/dealers sheet that has "codes" and explains all the steps from factory to delivery at the dealership.
Anyone wanna search?
Im tired. Serious!
Good luck with your new Audi!

seoultrain 08-12-2008, 05:29 PM I think you're gonna have to spell this one out..
What exactly do you mean "before of after october"? Surely you don't mean one should order in october only...
Mobilehavoc 08-12-2008, 05:36 PM Mine is on the list of those with a Status of 20 - Intransit from Factory. Sounds like it's on its way.
This is my first Audi after being a HUGE HUGE fan and wanting one for over a decade. Can't wait :)
Mobilehavoc 08-12-2008, 05:39 PM I'm right there with you. I'm guessing it has something to do with the paint/color of his car since he mentioned something about spraying paint and silver. I have no clue...
Audi4orce 08-12-2008, 05:49 PM Do you think they work? They get 2weeks off some more....Everyone is drunk LOL. Your order will sit at the factory...LOL

Mobilehavoc 08-12-2008, 07:00 PM Hey Tim,
I have the Commission number too and the Dealer #. How do I track the car's movement?
Mine should have been on that boat too. Damn delays.
