I ordered my current A4 in August 2001. In November, the Monday of Thanksgiving week, my salesman called me and told me my car was in and that I should pick it up asap. I was hesitant to pick it up because I was to take a 600-mile (round trip) trek on Thanksgiving, and I didn't want to take the new car. but my salesman was really pushing me to come get my B6.

I picked it up the next day, and on Thanksgiving made my trip. Everything went well. However, the very next day (Friday), AoA began offering car loans with 4.9% interest. I had paid 6.25%. I was pissed off because if I had waited three days, I could have gotten the better loan.

But after haggling with my dealer and AoA, they said that once the paperwork was signed there was nothing they could do.

Meanwhile, I am hoping to order a new B8 at the end of the year. I'm thinking I'll do this towards the end of December so I'll take delivery at the end of March '09.

Is this a good idea, or should I wait until January to order? I've heard that the best time to order a car is at the end of the month, or during a blizzard, or early in the morning when nobody is out shopping for a car, etc.

Anybody have any tips for me? I need to get the best deal I can, seeing as the price of the car has risen a lot. Thanks.

My local bank is currently offering 2.99% for new autos.

Email, get quotes, email again and shop the quotes, rinse, repeat until you get a price you're happy with.

It depends on your credit score also...I have an excellent score of 805. You might be getting higher rate because of credit score.

...it's 811.

I haven't applied for a loan yet, I was quoting rates on my bank's Web site, so my credit score has nothing to do with it.

By the way, can you tell me the name of the bank that has the 2.99% rates? Thanks.

Early mornings are good, late in the evening when they want to go home is good (more inclined to say "yes" just to get the deal done and go home), end of the month when they add up all the sales, during holiday DAYS (not on holiday weekends- it's busy), and in bad weather(rain, snow, extreme heat/cold). Studies show the months of December and February are the best months for deals. End of model year of course is better than beginning of model years. As been discussed, right now is the worst time to buy a new B8.
Personally, I do my purchases on the second year of a model run. The car is still fresh, will be around another four years without a redesign, bugs are weeded out, and deals have begun by then.
Hope that helps!

But I've had my B6 for seven years now, and wanted to trade it in two years ago, but didn't because I knew the B8 was on the way. I really don't want to hold onto the B6 for one more year.

I'm hoping that by the end of this year or early next year dealers will show a little -- if not much -- more flexibility in bargaining.
