Quick Shifting Tiptronic, no DSG for the USA.
Curse our retarded safety regulations that's screwing us out of all these tasty drivetrain configs. We need to stop blaming Audi and get on the NHTSA's case. Or both.

If you have both an auto and the more expensive and enthusiast oriented DSG the vast majority of buyers will opt for the cheaper auto since the differences simply won't matter to the bulk of the A4 buyers.

so why use the conventional auto at all? Don't build it, don't pay to federalize it.

And I don't buy the argument that it doesn't matter since most buyers won't care- all the cars in this segment have expensive engineering and features that are beyond what most people need. DSG can be marketed as being fuel-saving and incredibly smooth. It would also help the underpowered A4s acceleration times near those of the other cars in the segment that have 40-50 more horespower.

The backup camera and parking assist will move more units than a high zoot manumatic tranny. Sad perhaps but true I'd wager.

Both VW and Audi reference JD Power as the downfall of the DSG. I personally don't know, but maybe it's just not something that a luxury buyer expects from an Auto. (not as smooth/not as seamless) Maybe reliability is the problem?

Also European A4s don't have DSG yet. So even if Audi wanted to bring the DSG (they don't) it would most likely not be ready for US A4 introduction.

The DSG is already in use in the GTI and the GTR (called DCT I think), so I don't think that there will be homologation issues.

The Q5 is totally new, and probably designed ground up with that transmission in mind.

The A4 is already in production, and would need a change in factory tooling, so there'll be a delay in DSG A4s.

Same with the S5 - DSG and ADS are late arrivals.
