A bump of 11 hp over the B7 2.0T engine is hardly earth shattering but I would be happy with it if the torque rating is raised to 240-250 lb-ft and fuel efficiency is same or better.
I guess with the 3.2 FSI rated at 265 hp, one cannot expect the 2.0T to be rated at 230 hp or so. As it is, very few people bought the B7 3.2 when it had a 55-hp separation against the 2.0T since that 255-hp 3.1 V6 offered very little additional stock performance over teh 200-hp 2.0T and much worse fuel economy. It's unfortuante that the modest power rating of the new 3.2 V6 is holding back the potential of the 2.0T due to marketing reasons.

at 220 bhp. There is also a VR6 at about 260 bhp. So a gap of 40 bhp is conceivable.
The only issue holding back the bhp of this engine is torque steer in FWD mode. So the S3 has this engine at 275 bhp, but AWD.

Did read somewhere that Audi was focusing on improving mileage and lowering emissions as as primary goal.
as well, I think it would be a great base engine...

will get 170 and 200 versions with hp rating improved by 10-11. And maybe 220 version will be improved to 230 in the future, but this would require high octane fuel and may not be sold in all markets.

from regular GTIs.
The mileage engine is the new 1.8T FSI, which gets better economy than the 2.0T FSI.

Transversally mounted engines had a slightly better power vs the longitudinally mounted ones, read that somewhere (180hp vs 170hp).
