View Full Version : Any tid bits of info about a possible B8 RS4? Randy M 12-11-2007, 11:51 AM Perhaps a new RS4 w/ a biturbo or twin charger....around 500hp and a DSG tranny please..!! B7Quattro Pete 12-11-2007, 01:21 PM the question is, will it be a twin turbo V8 or V10? Either way, it's gotta do 500hp to compete. I'd bet on the twin turbo V10 that will probably also show-up in the R8-S.

RS5 News

Audi S5 TC 12-11-2007, 02:39 PM High revving, regularly aspirated 5L V10 with 500 SAE hp or low revving twin turbo V10 with any output? Dream on, B7Quattro Pete. ROTFLMDO :) The RS 6 has a twin turbo V10. Do you really think Audi is stupid enough to put a twin turbo V10 in the B8 RS 4 and RS 5 when the C6 RS 6 already has that engine? Come on. Audi has done a lot of stupid things before and continues to do so. But they would never in a million years do something as stupid as put a twin turbo V10 in the B8 RS 4 and RS 5 when the C6 RS 6 has that same engine. Not to mention, the enormous space and cost limitations for a V10 of any kind in the engine bay of any vehicle on the B8 platform. But with the C6 and C7 platforms, that apparently is a different story. The 5L V10 in the C6 RS 6 was completely revised for V8 size, weight and space efficiency along with a displacement decrease to 5L (a 0.2L decrease in displacement from the 5.2L that it originally was) just so Audi could fit a twin turbo V10 in the relatively small engine bay of the C6 platform for the C6 RS 6. acadia1 12-11-2007, 05:29 PM Now, would they do it, is another question entirely, I wouldn't put the v10 tt in it, I'd save that for the RS7, RS6, and hell RS 8, if they ever make one. v8 tt or normal aspirated v10 would be fine for RS5 500HP is alot anything over 450 I think is plenty for that car, unless they reduce weight significantly 480HP or 500HP wouldn't make much difference in actual speed. V10, will give greater top speed though. chewym 12-11-2007, 10:13 PM Audi could do the same as AMG and drop the same engine into everything. But I guess they won't. Tanner 12-12-2007, 04:20 AM Looking at the S5, the engine bay didn't seem much larger with the 4.2L in there. At any rate, the new chassis can be adapted for any of their newer cars now so who knows but I doubt that they'll put in a V10 in the B8 RS4. B7Quattro Pete 12-12-2007, 07:38 AM you seem to have inside info on engine bay capacity and potential installations. Now, go back a few years, who in their right mind ever thought they could fit the 4.2 in B6 engine bay?! Well, make the timing belt a chain and stick it in the back!....oh, and get a big shoe horn ;) The B8 is a whole new animal so how can you say that Audi can't shove anything in there they want to? I bet this, it will be lighter than the current 4.2 and it won't be that new 3.0 twin turbo motor.....so what's that leave us with? BLADOW! the Lambo V10! Randy M 12-12-2007, 08:17 AM B7Quattro Pete 12-12-2007, 09:23 AM you won't see that in the RS4. Audi S5 TC 12-12-2007, 09:46 AM But you won't see a twin turbo or twin charged V10 in the B8 RS 4, either, B7Quattro Pete. And, if you bet on a force fed V10 in the B8 RS 4 like you said you bet on, you will lose horiffically and regret it enormously. Randy M 12-12-2007, 09:49 AM Audi S5 TC 12-12-2007, 10:20 AM Only time will tell, Randy. Randy M 12-12-2007, 12:05 PM It's a good little commuter car that I have fun with and can throw around on the back roads going home. Decent on gas, all wheel drive...etc. I had a deposit on a RS4 before they came out but I figured that the B6/7 was a bit old as it came out way back in '01 when I had my B5 S4. Loved that car, and the biturbo was great. Since then I've had a '98 C4S and E46 M3. Still loved the S4 the most. So much so that we wnet w/ a Q7 for our family crap hauler.. B7Quattro Pete 12-13-2007, 04:52 AM whether or not it's turbo, not sure, but that application has been proven in the RS6. I believe the n-a V10 is more than enough and would be my preference. B7Quattro Pete 12-13-2007, 04:55 AM Audi S5 TC, my bet was on the Lambo V10, last time I checked it wasn't blown. Thanks for the mis-quote. B7Quattro Pete 12-13-2007, 05:04 AM

I had a 3.6 loaner for over a week and really enjoyed the driving dynamics (for such a big rig) and of course the space. My friends were more than happy to volunteer me for designated driver duty that week-end. I must say however, that the V6 engine seemed very low on guts. The 3.0 TDI would have been perfect. Audi S5 TC 12-13-2007, 05:32 AM jprice@CPS 12-13-2007, 08:56 AM All it needs is bigger turbos in the RS4. :-) B7Quattro Pete 12-13-2007, 09:06 AM the RS will have to be sexier than just subbing-in K04's. This is a whole new world now. I think a B8 with a 500 hp Lambo V10 is pretty sexy. Randy M 12-13-2007, 09:15 AM I sold it just prior to getting my '08 R32. I loved the torque of that big V10 but I didn't care for the way it sounded. Fried two clutches in that truck, anyway, I had a Magnaflow cat back on it that definitely made it sound better than stock, but it never sounded like it was finely tuned. I heard that the reason why is that a V10 engine has an uneven amount of cylinders per cylinder bank so V10's will never feel or sound as highly tuned as a V6/8 or 12. So for this reason I'd rather have a well tuned forced induction V6 or V8. But then I have no experience w/ the Audi V10. B7Quattro Pete 12-13-2007, 09:28 AM the Audi and Lambo V10's get rave reviews in the sound dept. Keep in mind, that Viper motor is an OHV (read old tech truck motor) vs. the high revving OHC race bred motor :) Btw, I just read that Audi is dropping a 520 hp V10 in the R8..but not the Lambo..so there ya go boys!

New V10 design for R8 (RS4?)

acadia1 12-14-2007, 06:20 AM acadia1 12-14-2007, 06:23 AM BD_TT_225 12-19-2007, 08:54 PM Randy M 12-20-2007, 08:33 AM Audi is making buttloads of cash gauging by how successful this model is and it's probably the single best all around vehicle I've ever had. Goes like hell through the rain and snow, fit and finish is superb, handles well and plenty of power for what it is. And I can pack up my family of four for an extended road trip. Imo it's the best sports oriented SUV out there. So tell me again why they shouldn't have made the Q7? Quattrocious 01-06-2008, 10:00 AM |
