I have been trying to find information about led tail light availability on the B8 A4. I found one site that mentioned that the A5 missed out on Led tail lights but the A4 would get them, but that was pre launch. They aren“t mentioned anywhere else. From all the pics I have seen it looks like the Led has been left out in the rear.

Anyone out there that can shed some light on this?

not sure what the problem is with the A4 not getting them. It is lame seeing (US) Honda Accords and lesser cars with them for years and not the A4.

It's a "cheap" setup, in the sense that the same (top) portion of the taillight assembly is the running light, the blinker and the brake light all together. Plus it's all red, at least on the sedan. Seems the Avant has a proper amber blinker, but I've only seen one at a dealer and never on the road.

Not sure about the new A8.

(Great sig--I also want my B8 3.0 TDi 6MT Avant Now, as well, or maybe in 6 months)

everyone's attention and creates a high tech in your face scene. Actually it is quite rare to have seperate LED brake lights and LED turn signals. Only reserved on some very high end cars, unless I am forgetting something. Toyota, Honda, Lexus, and Infiniti make due with regular bulbs for turn signals when their cars are equipped with LED brake lights. I do agree however having LED's on all seperate lights back there would be ideal.

I guess I simply don't like them. Most of the cars I see with them are Cadillacs, which I believe are gaudy. Audis should be understated.

plus they look more high-tech; well, because they are. Audi promotes the benefits of these lights on their official website so they must be worthwhile right? The A6 has had them for years, you'd think the all new A4 would have them also.

When your corporate slogan is "never follow", those following shouldn't have better technology in their vehicles, correct? Something like LED tail lights should be a given for a company proclaiming superiority and up-scale luxury across their line-up.

But that's just personal taste.

I do know this though....

If all cars had LED tail lights, the same folks bitching about no LEDs now would be bitching just as loudly for something else.

I am tired of seeing half the cars on the road with burned out brake lights. People never maintain their cars, and this puts everyone behind them at risk for impact. LEDs don't burn out, so there is a better chance the car won't get hit in the rear due to burned out bulbs.

or live with one burned out.

I've seen several cars with burned out LEDs in the cluster.

Don't get me wrong, LEDs are vastly more efficient than bulbs. They, overall, do last far longer. I'm sure they'll become mainstream in the next few years and most cars will have them. (Until a newer tech gets implemented)

They're just not the end all be all. And, to me, they still look cheesy.

Besides......I'd rather change a $5 bulb than a $300 assembly.

I'm not anti-tech by any means. I'm all for new tech that make a real difference.

I'm just not sold on adding tech just for looks.

The few times I have seem them with that set up, it's been on $100k cars. The rest, like you said, are on cheaper cars. I understand why you don't like them if you've only seen them on the Caddy's. They are blinged out because they are long "sticks." Not classy at all (and not surprising coming from GM). Some of the other understated ones still look nice and have that fast high-tech flash to them.

to b!tch about. But unlike things like having no DSG on the Quattro A4 or too much frontal overhang, the tail lights should be a simple update or at least be available as an option.

Again, IMO, the LED's are much brighter and thus get your attention sooner, especially when there's a cluttered background. I will admit though, that I was behind an Infinity FX45 yesterday and its flashing LED turn signals were giving me a headache :-0
