I went to the Sydney Motor Show today where I was able to sit in the new B8 A4.
As in the photos, it looks stunning in real life. The model they had on display was a black ambiente 3.2L V6 with Audi exclusive extras of beige leather, light coloured wood inlays, sports seats and 18 inch wheels.
I was amazed by the car, it's huge. You could easily mistake it for an A6 inside. There is plenty of front and back leg room, from what I could tell (seating arrangements etc can vary, but I left the front seats in the same position as when I was in them, when I went to the back seats [I'm 6 feet tall]).
The thing that was also very apparent was the progression of the design of the interior and the quality and feel of everything. Its like a mini A8 in terms of its quality. It really did not feel like an A4 at all, it had a feeling to it of so much more.
I sat in other cars that it competes with like the Mercedes C class and Lexus IS 250 and it was above and beyond what they offered. The C Class was especially bad in my opinion because my legs were very cramped inside the car even with the seat moved back, there is also a very narrow area for the legs meaning they almost have to be kept knee to knee (for me anyway). Also the front dash board etc feels like its invading your space and it adds to the claustrophobic feel of the car. The rear seats were very high up as well which I didn't like.
The A4 seems to outdo its competitors because of this significant space increase and superior quality, design and materials. It also has concave areas, such as in the doors which I think is partly responsible for the larger feel to the car. The centre console is directed towards the driver as well which makes the car feel like it's much more involving.
Overall I thought that the A4 was brilliant. I'm sure that a lot of people will be very surprised when they actually see and feel how large it is inside.
I think that Audi has really outdone themselves with this car and I don't think that any of its competitors seem relevant anymore.
