View Full Version : To further stir the speculation, Autoweek is reporting the 2.0t and the 3.2 V6 as the initial motors

on offer in the US. More interesting and troubling is their insinuation that the 2.0t will be Frontrak and the 3.2 Quattro. They don't say the 2.0t will ONLY be Frontrak, but it kind of reads that way. I don't have a scan, unfortunately. The article says something like "The 2.0t (Frontrak) and the 3.2 (quattro)..."

I had to share since Autoweek is making the assertion that the 2.0t IS coming to the US in the initial batch of cars. For whatever it's worth.

If AoA tries to pull the same stunt they did with the A3 and make me buy a V6 just because I want quattro, then I'm off to the BMW dealership.

Audi's V6's have, over the years, ranged from lackluster to mediocre...I'm not sure I'd take the 3.2 over the 2.0T if there was no price difference.

The lease on my 05.5 is up this June and even with the poor resale/residual and lack of free maintainence, I still would rather have a B8 than a BMW, but I'm only willing to put up with so much.

That is why I have been in the market for a new car for some time, and Audi isn't on my list right now because the A3 and TT can only be had with quattro if you buy the V6.

My wife's B6 is chipped with 235hp, and with FWD, it is a joke and completely useless. I had no idea it would be that bad when we bought it, but now we know. Quattro only for us from now on...

With gas at $3/gallon, the 3.2 is looking less and less necessary. I've driven the 2.0T in a friend's A3 and it's great! It has more than enough power.
But when Audi made me choose between quattro or a manual/2.0T in the A3, I chose a BMW.

People are so paranoid these days. The 2.0t outsells the 3.2 in the US and probably throughout the world. Why in the hell would Audi not continue to offer its #1 seller in the U.S.?

The 2.0t will make it to the U.S. Anyone who believes differently is a paranoid fool.

And I don't honestly believe they'll drop quattro from being offered on the 2.0t. I suspect it was probably a poorly worded passage, but I wanted to share nonetheless just to provoke the "what if" discussion.

If you could buy an A3 2.0t manual with quattro, I am sure that Audi would have sold twice as many A3s in the USA (albeit that some of those sales would be cannibalized from A4 2.0t quattros).

I can't imagine them not offering an B8 with 2.0 manual quattro, but Audi does some stupid stuff once in a while.

I believe that originally the B7 was only available with quattro with the V6, and the 2.0tqs were introduced a little later. I think...

BUT, I definitely agree regarding the complete stupidity and lack of foresight regarding the 2.0T and no Quattro option on both the A3 and TT.

No Quattro on the four cylinder B8 A4 (either gas or diesel) would mean no Audi sale this time around for me!

I don't think anyone in this thread asserting that Audi won't be offering the 2.0T in the B8, in the US.

What's on discussion is the possibility of the 2.0T and quattro not being available together...and if you look at recent AoA history, there's good reason to be a little "paranoid" here.

My guess is a 2.0T quattro A3 as well as a 2.0T quattro TT would both be good selling combinations...no? I'll take things a step further and say my personal bet is they'd each be the best selling combo for that model [or very close to it]. Yet AoA does not offer them. If you think it's beyond AoA's level of lunacy to forgo the 2.0T/quattro combo in the B8, you've not been paying very close attention to the decisions coming out of Auburn Hills lately.

Like you mentioned, however, the lack of haldex/Quattro in the A3 2.0T was a deal breaker for me, and the cost of the 3.2L A3 is ridiculously high compared to a well equipped 2.0T A4

The 135 does look like a lot of fun, but it may be a tad too small for me (may need to throw a baby seat in there in a few years).

I would probably be happy enough with a 328 Coupe.

I thought that like 99% of the A4's sold in the US were Quattro. I've never even seen a front-track A4 in the US.

I'm as big a fan of quattro as anyone, but if the worst I ever saw was rain, I'd have a longer list of cars to choose from and I'd just buy decent tires. I mean it's not like any of us are racing in the rain.

Of course, I live in Seattle and love driving through the mountains in the winter, so quattro IS a factor for me. But not if I lived in FL, SoCal, etc.

Problem is that our FWD B6 has 235+hp, and all that power through the front wheels is just silly. Either you stomp on the gas and the ESP cuts the throttle and it is a dog, or you turn off ESP and the car does a stupid ricer FWD burn out. My B5 quattro on the other hand, I just hit the gas and it never makes a chirp.

So, my new rule is that I will probably never own a FWD car again. Only quattros or RWD.

I was more getting at the angle that weather-wise quattro isn't a necessity in most states; RWD w/ proper tires will do the job. But I personally wouldn't want to own many FWD cars either, in any weather.

both the A3 and the TT 2.0 are transverse engines, which don't work with the traditional Torsen based quattro, but a Haldex clutch based mess. I think that's why, along with miscalculated marketing they did not get the Q. I doubt AoA would pull this trick with the longitudinal A4.
