(First all, all the press releases so far have been regarding European engine choices)

But back in April, Fourtitude interviewed Audi of America's Director of Product Planning:

Fourtitude: Turbos have always been a big part of Audi's heritage - today, pretty much relegated to the 2.0T. You see BMW with a turbo mid-range, similar to offerings you have had in the past. Do turbos fit on the top end now, or is that more of something left to other technologies like FSI, valvelift, etc.

Hoffmann [Audi AoA]: We haven't announced anything about that. But to answer shortly, yes. I think you will see something really exciting in the future with a turbo. Definitely.

Fourtitude: Will it be in the realistic realm, perhaps the B5 S4 or in the exotic realm like what the RS6 was in the past?

Hoffmann[Audi AoA]: It will be in a more of a high volume segment. You will see something nice in the near future. That is all I can say at the moment.

Conclusion: he is saying a new HIGH VOLUME TURBO engine (ie: A4?)

to compete against BMW's 305 horsepower.

They should just have two levels of turbo engines in the a4. A 2.0t with about 230hp to compete with the bmw 328i, lexus is250, c300, etc. And then a 3.0t to better compete with is350, 335i, g35, c350, etc. And bump up the s4's hp to around 360-370 or so, and give the rs4 about 450-470.

I guess the low torque output is to keep enough separation between that A4 3.2 turbo or biturbo and the V8 S4.

and replaced with a turbo V6 ~2010. The S4 and S5 will either get this turbo V6 or the RS4's high compression V8, with the new RS models getting a turbo V8.

I'd love to see that, but I doubt it.
