Guess they can't figure out how to fit a DSG between the footwells of a longitudinal car.

View Full Version : Hello? No DSG??? Frankly, I'm disappointed: B8 = B7 w/ A6 interior bits. cpurick 08-29-2007, 02:49 PM Guess they can't figure out how to fit a DSG between the footwells of a longitudinal car. AnimaTTor 08-29-2007, 02:50 PM Audi S5 TC 08-29-2007, 03:05 PM If so, if the B8 A4/S4/RS 4 and A5/S5/RS 5 will eventually get DSG (in one or two years), I assume that the C7 A6/S6/RS 6 and A7/S7/RS 7 and D4 A8/A8L/S8 will also get DSG (right away at the earliest, third model year at the latest). I know for a fact that the B6/B7 A4/S4/RS 4, C6 A6/S6/RS 6 and D3 A8/A8L/S8 will not get DSG at all due to cost and fitment issues. cpurick 08-29-2007, 03:29 PM nirad 08-29-2007, 05:16 PM the weight balance is dramatically improved, there is 40/60 F:R quattro split, and the suspension design is completely new too. though i do agree that DSG would be nice, and I'm getting a bit tired of waiting for a "proper" (i.e. torsen) Audi with DSG. cpurick 08-29-2007, 05:24 PM I fear sales will be disappointing on this new model. It doesn't have the same effect as when they went from B5 to B6. nirad 08-29-2007, 05:49 PM Because Audi has the best base engine in the segment (the new 1.8t), and the best mid-size diesel (3.0 TDI). In the US, Audi really needs an answer for the 335i and G35. Audi will do fine selling the base 2.0t in the US (even the B7 2.0t is still selling well), but the 3.2 needs more power to be competitive. And the S4 can't offer similar performance to BMWs and Infinitis which cost $5-10k less (assuming the S4 gets the same engine as the S5). Tanner 08-29-2007, 06:31 PM B6 comes out, looks great, though some believe sales will drop. Same with the B7, too much of a change, new corporate nose isn't going to help with sales, etc. A4 sales still strong and increasing over the years. From the start, the B8 looks a lot more photogenic compared to the B6 or B7. Overall dimensions is much better, especially with the overhang up front. Design is a lot more organic and well, it even reflects in a lot better drag coefficient too. With respect to the interior, it's similar to the A6. At first, I didn't like it until I drove the new A6 S-line a few years ago, and at that point, I liked it. Nevertheless, the interior of the B6/B7 is still clean and purposeful. Bronze 08-29-2007, 08:43 PM and one of the questions was whether we'd see DSG for longitudinal powertrains, and his answer was yes, but he couldn't offer a timeframe. Tom/APR 08-30-2007, 11:40 AM Unless something is drastically reengineered, I don't see them staying around. Tanner 08-30-2007, 11:45 AM Basically said the same thing - it's coming but it takes time. cpurick 08-30-2007, 02:24 PM OTOH, I've heard plenty of complaints about CVT, yet Audi seems to keep building those. A4Driver 08-30-2007, 04:47 PM and not just a cosmetic makeover, are going to jump on the B8. I may be first in line. . . . . . cpurick 08-30-2007, 05:20 PM |
