Put fresh tires on Thursday...hopefully we'll have a few more dry days so I can scrub them in a little better. I rode out with two other motards Saturday and the route was perfect for the 'tard (except I could have done without the CHP that stopped us at the end of the ride...but he let us go).

It's wierd waiting at a red light and being happy when it takes 5 minutes to change...that means open road ahead with no cages to slow things down for a few miles of twisties.

pavement ends...I tried to scrub the tires in again Sunday but the roads were still too wet so I headed back to the dirt road that was slick as snot.

My SM has a range of about 110 miles on a tank of gas and I've removed almost 10 lbs of "stuff" to lighten it up a bit.

You can pick up a '05 or '06 used for under $4.5k. I bought my '07 last Feb for $6.2K out the door.

It's a solid bike that requires little maintance (compared to KTMs, Aprilias, and Husqvarnas). Not the fastest thing out there but it is a lot of fun and there are several things that can be done to improve performance and parts are easy to find.

I spent most of my time riding and only stopped a few times for pics. Plus I don't think 316 miles in two days on Nor-Cal back roads with only 15 miles of dirt is quite ADV material.

Here's one a buddy took

Leaving a small town we got popped by a CHP coming the other way about 100 yards before the 55mph zone. I should have asked the CHP that stopped us Saturday if he'd let us take a pic of him or his truck with our bikes stopped but we were just trying get out of there without a ticket and didn't want to push our luck. I think he saw three muddy "dirt" bikes and wanted to make sure we were legal...that and 50+ in a 35. He let us go with a warning but it was a major buzz kill. At least it was at the end of our ride.

Here's a pic right after we were let go by the CHP (crappy quality from friends phone)

Here's another pic my buddy took of the front of his DRZ when we got back
