So have they done it? Has CAR UK caught the fish of the year so far by outscooping every other wheels mag on the planet and getting their sweaty hands on the Audi RS5? It would certainly seem that way, judging from their upcoming October 2008 issue (on sale this week) which features the BMW M3 pitted against an Audi RS5. Those close to the situation confirm that this is the real deal, a real example of the RS5 which is due out mid-2009. We are natural sceptics, so we'll have to read the story ourselves first, so a couple of days to go...CAR says RS5 spits out 450 bhp from a turbocharged engine, which if true could pave the way for a turbocharged 2010 RS4.

From the pics we can see honeycomb mash grille galore, an Audi RS trait, silver side mirrors, along with the LED lights so made famous by the R8 and adopted by the new A4/ A5 ranges, and R8-style air ducts with no fog lamps. the turbo totally makes the lack of 20 extra hp, forecasted, better...

hopefully the trans can handle the added power from a chip if it's an S-tronic

ps, my GF looking at this pic said it looks like the girlie car against the big bad MAN car (looking at the little M3 vs the (R)S5...tehe

looking at the spy shots in a post below though the scale of the grill honeycomb is indeed too big as well as in the lower gills the mule has cooling and more honeycomb in the openings where this image does not. Looking like a real photochop to me.

Even Car is not going to get a scoop this good and drive the car and publish the results before Audi's embargo. That would mean any mag or paper in future could break the rules with impunity. Audi would never let it happen. What they will have done is compared specs, the driving experience of the M3 and the "heresay" from Audi engineers about how the RS5 will drive. They will also have photoshopped the cover with liberal use of the Audi R8 diesel nose...
