My A5 09 is coming in next week, so starting to get my papers and financial together. Already negotiate to split the difference between MSRP and Invoice with the dealership.
Just trying to get a sense of how much people paid in terms of dealer fee(doc, advertising and prep fee)
Adv fee = 292
Doc fee = 150
Prep fee = 200
Have anyone negotiated theses type of fees or gotten rid of it completely? If so, what did you say? Thanks.

Dealers fees are unfortunately common. I recall paying one fee of $295, but those three fees are outrageous!

I am paying a 98.50 doc fee.
None of the rest.

So I'd argue that...
Doc fees are nothing but sticking it to the customer. In my business we have to do far more paperwork, but we don't charge a bogus "doc fee". It might make sense in a state where they actually go to get your registration and plate for you, but that's not true in my state.

..if it's in addition to that, then I'd say it's questionable. Doc is normal, and also varies from state to state. In Cali, it's $55.00, I believe. Prep is also usually part of the invoice cost as well. In any case, if you're splitting the difference between MSRP and invoice, I'd say that's a decent deal at this point anyway. YMMV.

Fees will vary from state to state. The advert fee is fluff, although some dealers will maintain that their "region" will pass on advertising fees to them. The Doc fee is legit. In Illinois, Doc fees are allowed by law (at least a minimum fee is allowed...something like $58.75) but dealers are free to bump it up. It's negotiable. The Prep Fee is definitely fluff. Prep fees are included in the MSRP. Look on the Morooney (sp) sticker. It usually says Total Vehicle Price (includes Pre-Delivery Service).

They show up on the invoice, and are part of what the dealer actually pays for the car, the port fee is also in the dealer cost column...
Ad fee is calculated as 1/2 of 1% of the MSRP before destinantion charge. Port fee is $195 a car, and pays for the car to get from the port to the dealership...
Dealer fees are more of a grey area item, my dealership charges $95, and we do all the registration work. We have it preprinted on our Purchase orders, the thought being that if we do not colllect it from even one client, we would then be open to class action litigation from everyone we've ever collected it from, so it is no negiotable, like the other two fees mentioned...

so what the hell does the $825 delivery fee cover if it doesn't cover transportation from port to dealership?
And does it really cost 200 for document on top of the registration I have to pay?
And i rather pay a professional detailer to prep my car then the dealerships

pays for port prep (loading unloading, port installed options etc)... none of that is added to the MSRP side, just the dealer cost side...ask to see the invoice it's all there...
Doc fees are the only thing added by the dealer to the actual MSRP of the car...

7% of MSRP BEFORE Destination, ad fee, and port prep fee, so yeah 5% is about right...
