I'm looking to order a loaded S5 shortly and want to see what the going rate for the car is right now. NADA puts the fully loaded invoice at $54,056 with MSRP at $58,015 including gas guzzler tax and destination.
I hear some dealerships are charging over MSRP and others at MSRP (coming from a salesman at the local dealership). What have the people on this forum gotten for pricing??

$1000 off msp.....but, it was my 3rd car in 18 months from the same dealer.....and my wife's car is up for lease soon and he wants that business too. Where in Jersey? I'm up in the northeast corridor.

I worked with four different dealers and I was able to get my S5 (auto, phantom black, magma, NAV, tech, B&O) for 2.7k off MSRP. The current wait times does not necessarily mean that you have to pay MSRP. Make sure you work with more then one dealer, and don't forget to walk if they don't negotiate.

a car. They don't have stock right now, so , no matter how hot the car is, unless, it's sitting in the driveway and you can walk away with it that day, there is absolutely no reason to pay MSRP on an order, or at all.
The car won't be hot for ever, and the car dealers want your business, period.

Exactly. I have a 2004 G35 right now and paid $2000 off sticker when there was a $2500 mark up on the color car with extensive options because it was so hard to get back then..
Thats the kind of deal I'm looking for.

Think about it -- if you order now and got one of the last 2008 you are going to east some depreciation for sure. They need to do something about that.

It may be worth a call or a drive to Parsippany (north Jersey). Contact Steve Seigal @ Paul Miller Audi - 973-575-7750.

I still need to sell my G35, so no hurry. I was actually surprised to find out that my insurance would be LESS than what I'm paying on my 2004 G35 currently!

grocery store? I know I am in the minority but there is a cost to doing business and they are entitled to a profit or they will no longer have a business.

I'm just not going to be buying from them. They are making a respectable amount of money at Invoice and that is $4,000 less than MSRP. They are also making money on the financing part of the sale, so they are making money off of the money they already profited off of you.
This is a buyers market. I'm not going to go against the economy. I'm all for capitalism, but I want the most out of my money. Why pay extra?

Capitalism at it's finest, there will be someone willing to pay that price, just not me.

and that's your priority, good for you. On the other spectrum, different dealers are going to give a discount. Hence, the dealers who wouldn't move on the price didn't get any business at all.
Personally, I think it's ludicrous not to negotiate a car sales price, especially when you factor in depreciation during your wait. That's just not good business for both parties, period.
Nice picture, BTW.

you know, I usually don't jump in to discussions over here (I'm usually on the mk2 TT board) but I feel I must dive in and clarify a few things...
1) in this day and age (esp w/audi dealers) in stock or order, doesn't matter much. It's demand that counts, and how many they get of a certain model.
2) a respectable amount at invoice? you are joking, right?
let's just say I have a intimate knowledge on Audi's price structure, and "respectable" is not the work I would use. more like, mediocre. and your sales guy won't get paid on any of that. I all for a good deal, but realistically, this is not a "buyer's market" right now for the A5 and S5. it's more like a seller's market.
2b) a side note as it seems you are not familiar with audi's pricing (i just reread your 1st post), here's the condensed version: there is NO holdback. (if your dealer manages to get good surveys, hits their sales #'s and buys enough lease returns, then they will get on average 4% back on each car. big IF, and not guaranteed. these funds then get paid quarterly (i think) and put into the slush fund for advertising and the like.)
3) right now, based on all the feedback I have read on this forum and others, along with my own personal knowledge, if you can get a car in less than 4 months at or near msrp (+/- 500) be happy and enjoy, knowing you're one of just a few. if you're looking for a bigger discount, unless you've bought more than a few Audi's from the same dealer (loyalty) then plan on waiting at least a year, mark my words (I've seen the planned volume, it's not enough cars).
ok, rant over. back to your regularly schedules programming.............
note: also most of this is publicly available knowledge. just subscribe to automotive news, amongst others.

How will this car fair for value down the road? Does it make more sense to lease it like Benz's?

I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and 7 Audis. How do you want to be treated at the dealership after shopping for the "best" deal. My dealer has gone above and beyond getting warranty coverage for issues that have occured. Customers are treated as friends. They ask me when I would like to schedule my service instead of telling me what's available. A loaner is always available. Don't think a dealership doesn't remember who tried to squeeze the last nickel out of them. Many of you don't know the actual cost of doing business unless you work for yourself. Flame on

pay extra. The dealers want your loyalty. To that ends if they want your business they will give a good deal, as they know you'll likely buy your next car from them. It works both ways.
I've payed sticker and been treated like garbage.
I'll never pay sticker again, period. I'll just go elsewhere. You continue with your method, mine seems to work for me, to each his own.
Good bless free markets, except when they are exploitive of others.

However you want to justify and rationalize your purchase; fine. It's kind of ridiculous that you keep defending the fact that you willingly and enthusiastically didn't attempt to assert some business acumen and negotiate.
Furthermore, the dealership that gave me the best price I have purchased several cars from in the past. I guess you could say that they are working to keep my business, not me working to keep theirs. Nonetheless, enjoy your car, but this conversation has far surpassed the horizon of pointlessness...
